I don't know if your recession is still going full bore or not but if it is this may be of interest:
http://www.cbc.ca/player/Radio/Local+Shows/British+Columbia/Radio+West/ID/2313026862/
There is a ferocious drive for foreign workers right now going on, mostly in the resource and construction fields in remote areas. Heads up on this - you gotta sell your soul and have no moral qualms with raping canadian resources to send to china, but if you're hurting bad enough this may interest you
Apparently they are recruiting in california right now, after visiting Ireland, China, Russia.... you name it.

The news piece specifically states they're looking for experienced/credentialed construction workers who will then be groomed over a year or two to enter middle-management. It's a gap created by retirement of middle-management in British Columbia.
They said the ideal candidate is 35 years old with 20 years experience in construction. Sounds like more than a few climbers out there.
Thanks for posting.

Pedantic quibbling:
35 years old with 20 years experience in construction Legal employment age in Canada is 15???
Or maybe someone went to school in the US and can't do math.

High Traverse,
Yep. Technically speaking, the minimum age is 12. In the U.S. it is 14.

Bruce's link is for jobs up in the oil sands specifically. we need you to help us decimate, draw & quarter, then sell off what's left of our resources to private foreign interest!! I think this new foreign worker program also gives the employer rights to waive OT pay, living & travel allowances & pay people far below industry standard. If I'm wrong about any of this Bruce please correct me, cheers.

Ryan,
All the employers in Canada are doing to citizens what you listed regardless of any guest worker legislative convenience.
And I second what Cragman said !

Haha Granite climber looking for a change of scenery eh? I don't blame you.
It's a lot easier to get a Canadian working visa for a 'Mercian than it is for a Canadian to get a 'merrican visa. I think u also need to be under 30, clean record, etc.

Hmm I see we changed the name of our temporary foreign worker program to the "international experience Canada initiative" or IEC, that's got a nice sugary coating to it.
Jim- good point!
Edit -Kunlun_Shans link illustrates the point I was trying to make.

Mighty Hiker.....selling for a mess of pottage.....that is a biblical phrase. What Joseph did to his brah, Esau. The results of said sale were not good. Pro like it won't be for your beautiful country. lynnie

Yes, it's a famous quote, one often heard here. Canada has a long and sorry history of selling its land and resources for less than we ought, often to foreigners. B.C. particularly, perhaps.
