Well. It probably comes as a surprise to many that Johno is not terrifically wealthy after all those books, all the slide shows, all the years, all the legendary ascents.
He has still been shaking the dice, staying fit, helping tons of people on intimate levels through four decades, has a family and a dear wife now that perhaps is ailing as well. He remains amongst us and has a story much like most ST members: he gave it all at "church", so to speak and today the rest of us join in to help this man at one of his bad spots along the way.

The fundraising link goes to the John Long Donations Fund in the name of Krista Goodsitt. Who is this person managing the fund collection and what his her connection to John Long? I can't find her name anywhere behind the Chipin link. Seems this might go a lot better if all this stuff was a little clearer and open.

This is really weird for a guy with a doc for a daughter...
My understanding is she is a medical student. Huge difference, and would explain any lack of money as well. My wife's a doc (not MD) and I married into 100k in debt. I'm sure you can figure the math out as far as how that sort of debt alters the father's funds.
edit: I can understand some cynicism as far as making sure the money gets to the right place, JLP, but we shouldn't make this a slag fest when a guys who has given his heart and soul to the community sits broken in the hospital. That would be completely tactless.

I remember one winter in JT, some wood lot owner would pull up with his dump truck loaded with a cord or so of wood, and dump in all in a fire ring and light it up.
We'd all be standing about 30' away, with our fronts roasting and our backs freezing.
Yeah, like that...

Check this link to my house, if you rent a night or two I'll donate the money to JL.
I will match with my own money the rent, this will give JL a total of $480 per night.
The place sleeps 6 and is 240 a night, not too much if u get a group and a great place to chill.
It's my hope that the drama queens and bullies alike can act like gentleman and focus on Largo.
He is a great man who cares deeply for his friends and has always been there for me in my darkest days.
Just tell the property managers it's for the Largo fund.
I will donate a total of five nights.

Silver's right. Even if you have planned well financially, the perfect storm can destroy it all.
The community can help keep that from happening. I would be glad to help in whatever way I can. Hope someone establishes the date asap so people can begin to make plans.

This is going to be one expensive bivouac and also ain't going to be any soaking-the-cast-off-early and jumping right-back-up-on-the-pipe type of recovery.

As a recent recipient of a $50k bill over my last Yosemite adventure, I know well how fast one's life can get turned upside down by an unexpected incident.
I really like the idea of a JT gathering and bonfire stories/fundraiser...would love to see this happen!

Hey Bullwinkle. I've been following the comments about fundraising for Largo, and I wanted to propose an idea- doing something at Outdoor Retailer in January. I don't know how much money needs to be raised, but it sounds like "a lot". Using the Access Fund booth at OR? asking Black diamond to host a slide show during the show? getting companies to chip in $? I haven't spoken to anyone about this, so I'm wondering what you guys think. awaiting instructions!
