oh ya, throw ropes, self-evacuation picks around the neck, dry clothes on shore- a few of these have been used over the years... works pretty well.

Skated a section of Merced River behind Camp 6 one year. There's more available than people think.

I seriously want to do this in the next couple of winters, ski, hike & skate the JMT. That's about how long it'll take me to accumulate some new lighter weight gear.
Has anyone ever hiked any distance in NNNBC boots? Mine fit me really well. I think I'll check it out this weekend.
Thanks Dit, LOVE the video. Was wondering if you guys had gone swimming. Figured there would be a change of clothes on hand.

I could see a winter ascent of Mt. Lyell in these conditions. On skates and skis...
Why not?

I'm wondering, how did they film the skater? Another skater, but where's the bobbing--the subject stays right in the middle of the frame and there's no motion on the camera!
Fantastico!

man....
watching Steve White skating at speed across that perfectly clear ice gives me the WILLIES...
Spectacularly beautiful but I'll be danged if I'd ever try it.
Ice ain't supposed to be both solid and that crystal clear.
Wonder if they saw any fish?
