Cool!
The only previous gear shop was the thieves looting cars in the CG at night.
Too funny, but too true. I look forward to patronizing the new businesses and hope they succeed.

On one of my rare trips there this last season, I ran into several parties who'd had just that happen. It's a major bummer.
I'd met one in one of the groups before and given her and her group climbing beta before at Donner. Just as we were pleasantly conversing, her boyfriend realized they'd been robbed. Seeing her eyes change from happy to horrified really sucked. That's something POS people who take others' belongings don't see too often. I bet their lives reflect the ugliness they wreak.
One of the group was tracking their stolen iPhone though, so I'd like to believe they eventually nailed the POS banditos dead to rights..

I am so glad Squirel is making a go of it. He's a good man. And boy does that place need some climbing energy. Since the hotel lost the best climbing bartender and waitress I don't even stop in any more. Good reason to go by and say hi. Timing is a bit tough though.
Bet he doesn't have any partners either ;). Best of look my friend.

Squirrel is one of the GREAT people here on earth and plus I guarantee he will do a fantastic job with that store! He is super competent, has a great spirit, and is bound to have some Grateful Dead tunes in the background! Maybe some fine beta here or there? Actually I guarantee that as well!

There is an 1862 full-page drawing of a road , cabins, and Lover's Leap on page 502 of the first edition of Sir Richard Francis Burton's book "The City of the Saints and across the Rocky Mountains to California " .The inscription is "In the Sierra Nevada" . You can see it online at Google Books by using the advanced search feature. It is the oldest Hwy.50 illustration I've seen.

Thats what Jay said, but it was Sunday and apparently they're closed on Sunday. Hopefully the Strawberry Market will now have some in stock. Not for no 30 bucks though. Never seen an SDS for that much, 10 bucks maybe.

Finally got a chance to check out the store yesterday after skiing and it looks great!
There's a new, improved beer section too but I forgot to take pictures.

Ha! Now that you mention in, I'm pretty sure that was Box of Rain playing in the background when we were there...

U.S. Route 50 is a major east–west route of the U.S. Highway system, stretching just over 3,000 miles (4,800 km) from Ocean City, Maryland on the Atlantic Ocean to West Sacramento, California. I doubt there's anything worth climbing east of Meyers : p

Went to the Strawberry Market for the first time today. Best coffee, nicest people. Sometimes it is hard to believe those two things are so scarce these days. What a relief! Thank you!
Looks like an early season for the Leap. Tahoe snowpack is suffering.
