Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania. 100% man-made boilerplate ice. Two turn hill; one turn to get off the lift, one turn to get on the lift.

Jealous Big Mike. We are back to tropical weather down here at the beach. Yosemite high country wasn't much better. Packed ice.
Heading to Bozeman.

I'm trying to do a different type of shredding right now. First time surfing in Hawaii. Banzai Pipeline just down the road. 9-10' swells.

I didn't shred.

Nature, doooooood. Start at or near the south shore (where ever is mellow) and get your hop up dialed. Then move on to steeper waves. You can even practice at home on the floor, as long as you know if you are goofy or regular. I kind of hesitate to mention this, but might want to consider a series of exercises focused on surfing to help you along. Some of these are geared specifically towards the hop up and I know they work (quicken up the movement). Check ito out if interested (I get no money from this, I just think it helps loads).

Christoph!! Sick stuff man! Snowboard mountaineering is the SHIZNIT! Why hike up it if you can't ride down it! :)

Susan- Pretty Damn Good for a bit till it turned to mash potatoes and alpine got shut down for avy danger.

John- I know I know..... Snow is my first love. I can't just give that up. You'll be happy to hear that I've toned my riding way back from what it used to be. I won't be pushing boundaries anymore. I just wanna ride and have fun.

WOW! Christoph comes in and drops the hammer on all us gapers.

Hate to say it ladies and gentlemen, but after 23 years of snowboarding and 19 years of backcountry splitboarding.... (pause for effect)

I think I'm going to learn how to ski.

Wait. Now just wait a goddam minute. Look, I love the way a snowboard feels on those epic powder days, but after a couple of seasons skinning around the local mountains I think that skis are the way to go. Plus, learning new stuff is cool. I feel like a traitor...a fraud for betraying the winter discipline that I've loved and defended with fervor for so long but the truth is staring me in the face. Getting around my current local mountain range will be a lot less painful on skis. I hope my splitboarding bretheren will understand this and support me in my future endeavors. However, I'm still not selling off my old Prior just in case I need to whip it out on a nice bluebird day.

Hi nwo,

I'm doing pretty darn good considering. Pain is minimal, just working on getting feeling back 100% in my left leg. It's coming, and i get more return all the time which is nice.

Sorry i never returned your email. I got a whole whack of messages at that time which was very encouranging, but overwhelming and i'm afraid too many went unreturned.

Edit: great news Jim! Let's get out for a tour when conditions get better.

I got up fairly early today, only to arrive at the lifts and realize that i'd totally spaced on my boots.... Doh! So back home i went and i missed the first couple runs.

When I got up Solar I headed straight to 7th heaven.

The minute I showed up, the chair opened.

Sixth chair on 7th Heaven

"Powder" beard selfie :)

I got three decent laps in on the pow groomers and then peaced out when it got chopped up and busy.

Tomorrow looks sweet!
