To the right of Yosemite Falls. Anyone climbed it?

Looking for real beta, skip the banter.

i tried to get beta on the Misty Wall a year or two back. No luck.

I talked to somebody who did do it (longer ago) and they said it was quality. The first few pitches are going to be wet but otherwise I think its doable while the falls are still going well.

Let us know how it goes. Seems like a good climb for a push but I'd love to know how big and flat that bivy ledge is.

peace

I'm pretty sure Rob Lescher (sp?) did it back around '81. Some of the folks on this site may know of his whereabouts but I'm not one of them.

Didn't that Klaus bloke (Eric Kohl or something like that) write in one thread that he's climbed it or maybe that he put some FAs on that wall?

Swirly vortex, that part of the Valley, just after dark. Seen it from the LA Direct.

Anyone witness?

Thanks Klaus. Yeah Werner... I know. I'm stuck as a gimp for the moment. Gotta give the knee at least a few more weeks...

Klaus - thanks for the topo... I'll definitely let you know if your handywork gets climbed again :) Won't be for a while, gotta be "smart" with a knee injury.

Yup, I've joined the ranks of tele skiers with two little scars below one of their knee caps... torn meniscus. Amazing what modern surgery can do, should be back on the rock in a week or two, nothing too hard for a bit longer.

I've been quiet on the supertoca scene recently, too busy with other things, but I'll be back on here for kicks before long. Seems like the Valley is red lining on drama these days. Keeps things interesting.

Cheers,

I don't have the new Big Walls book in front of me, since I'm at in the law office (obviously not working), but I'm pretty sure it is in their new book. Incidentally, Robbins and McCracken made the first ascent of the wall when the Fall was still flowing rather heavily. Ed Cooper had fixed ropes on the first part of the climb, and Robbins wanted to get past them to do the FA in alpine style, before Cooper could finish it as a seige climb.

There is no topo in the new book. It is listed under the additional routes section with a rating and a hole count (2 new!). I have an inkling of the path it takes, but felt too unsure to draw a line precisely. I believe the new free route, L'Appat, shares the last pitch and a half.

Thanks for the corrections. That is why I did not try to draw a line! I suspected they shared that terrain because they both are close to that obvious weakness in the headwall.

Hmmm...I thought you told me that it only had 2 new holes. Regardless...proud work up there!

Thanks for sharing.

attempted misty wall on a low flow year maybe '87 with mike strassman. got up to the "bullshit traversing pitches" and said" f*#k this" and bailed . rapped down to the giants staircase ledge just before dark. it was a epic valley evening so we decided to bivy and eat our food /drink/burn/ hang. after a lovely session we hit the hay with the falls a mere whisp in the distance. it beening warm out. im sleeping with my bag open when in the middle of the nite the wind shifts and the falls begin to saturate our location. it was like a five gallon bucket on your head every 15 seconds . we huddled in our bags soaked till daybreak when the wind finally died.......good times ....rip murry
