A few photos gleaned over the last year or two. It appears that climbers of El Capitan like to take their furry friends with them. (OK, your spouses'/daughters' teddies - have it your way.) And as some of the more manly have come out of the closet and posted about them here, it must be common.

The original Teddy and his teddy:

If I have a chance, I'll find a photo of Winnie the Pooh, too.

So, 'fess up. Who has a climbing teddy, and where have you been with it? How about some photos? (Pete: No crabs, thank you very much.) Many of your teddies have been to places we can only dream of, so let's hear about them.

Not sure this thread will stay on the target Anders is looking for, but should be interesting nonetheless.

I imagine this thread to head into the abyss of titties and butts a few posts hence.

I thought for sure that Locker had started this thread, just from the title...then I saw it was Anders and thought, WTF..... it's all worked out so far, ..... so far....

"Stuffie" bear? I don't think so.

And yes, Terrie's Teddie could be added to the group, and maybe #46 - climbing El Cap isn't a prerequisite.

No stinking Teddy for me.

Wouldn't be manly you know.

Dale used to bring Theodore Edmund Bear on walls. His purpose; "to pilot the haul bags down"... back in the tossing days. Theodore, or Teddy to his close friends, is tucked in next to Dale in the photo.

Winnie the Pooh and his human companion, Lieutenant Harry Colebourn, in 1914.
The bear was named "Winnie" because he originally came from near Winnipeg. He became the mascot of the Fort Garry Horse, part of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. Thus proving that real men have teddies.

Another Teddy - this was during his first year coming climbing, at the Peterskill area of Gunks. I have a friend who takes her dog up to the High E ledge for picnics(in a backpack) but I would never even think of ding it with Teddy. So...he stays on the ground, as base camp manager.

yes, Debbie took that picture, Feb 8, 1980, in our Tarrytown appartment, I was probably reading from Stephanie's favorite book of the time, Home for a Bunny ("...A home for a bunny/A home of its own/under a rock/under a stone/where will the bunny find a home?") which we probably still have stuffed somewhere around (or Steph has it at her place).

Here is a photoshopped version of that problematic negative...

and the fact that is seems to be so ephemeral is a great metaphor for our memories...

...I'm not of the bring-your-toys-on-a-climb-school, so no talisman accompany me on climbs, but some of my gear is so old that they may be promoted to talismanic status...
