Last I heard, this was a climber's forum. On the front page are currently several really excellent climbing trip reports......just what this forum should be about. They won't stay there long because most here don't post on them.
Political and religious threads get thousands of posts....how about a movement to support the really good work people put into climbing trip reports!

I respond... but I feel my best response is to reciprocate by putting up more of my own Trip Reports...

acknowledging a TR can be an exercise in trite politeness... but it is essential in this Forum format for keeping the TR on or near the "front page"

Here is a heartfelt question about "why write a TR" I wrote 6 years ago...

I try to reply to most TRs because I really do appreciate them. All of them regardless the climb involved. From buildering to Baffin Island. Something done 50 years ago or yesterday. It really is one of the best things about the Taco.

Plus I know people like getting a little acknowledgement for their effort.

It can seem repetitive to keep basically saying TFPU. I try to find something I like most in the TR to comment on. It's worthwhile I think.

One point though.... Supertopo is in my mind the Virtual Campfire.. It all belongs just like the conversations that have gone on around campfires for millennia. Climbing should be the core and It's definitely good to keep the climbing content bumped

Talking about climbing is like talking about......................................................the weather.
But I like to talk about that too.

Yes. And I have contributed a couple of trip reports, even when the trip didn't go so well. I am far from the cutting edge and know that people aren't really interested in my little adventures. But I do obsessively read any trip report about a climb that I am planning on, especially when travel to the climb is involved. For those once in a lifetime or decade climbs, the trip reports are very helpful in preparation. For someone with very limited abilities, every climb is an adventure, even with lots of preparation.

Trip reports are by far my favorite reading. They share excitement, enthusiasm, and some, how to get up and do it again when you've been knocked senseless.

Many of the TRs are way above my pay grade so I usually do not comment on the technical aspect, or have the same experience to respond with "oh, man, isn't that 7th pitch a kicker"....but I always try to express my gratitutde in having vicariously enjoyed a rollicking good time.

I equally enjoy the TRs that are about other adventures in the grand scheme of living life well and enjoying it.

TRs take alot of time to post, the narrative and sorting out the pics. Thanks much to those of you that do...you brigten my day!

I've posted TR's.

Not much climbing lately, busted knee dislocates when I torque it wrong.

I'll post more TR's when I'm comfortable tweaking my right leg in ways that allow for climbing worthy of a Trip Report.

How many ways can you say "Awesome. TFPU!"

How many times can you stand to read "That was great. Thanks"

If I need a TR, they're below the forum list (See "Recent Trip Report and Articles"). It's a climbers forum, not a climbing forum. Pff.

If I need some retarded nonsense, I'll scan the forums. It's a climbers forum, not a climbing forum. Pff.

If I need videos of cute kittens, I'll go to YouTube. Pff.

As a non-contributor to the political threads, I believe TRs are the best part of this forum. I try to reply to every one I read, even if all I am saying is "KUDOS". Having people reply to your TR feels good, and to see it get buried in a bunch of non-climbing threads feels lame.

We should encourage to writers of TR's to keep doing what they do because it is WAY more in keeping with the spirit of a CLIMBING forum than endlessly debating whether Republicans are wrong about everything.

Yes, I've posted TRs. And yes, I comment on other folks' TRs. But not all TRs are great, and if TRs were the only content on ST, then ST would die virtually overnight.

The hard-core political & religious threads are pretty stupid, but there are hundreds of threads about other things -- everything from aviation to zoology -- many of which are interesting and fun.

As Dingus said, it's fun to occasionally drop in on the politard-fests and poke the anthill with a stick (the ants then scurry around in ever-so-predictable circles), but I wouldn't miss them if they were gone. I would miss the rest, though.

Yes, but not very often, although i do read many of them.
They do get read... The replies to the trip reports can be low, but the view numbers are usually high.

I read them, write em, post to em.... I find it funny that people have trouble figuring out what to express.. For me I find when I actually take the time to read it, usually I will identify with something they wrote or enjoy one or more of their pics... It's usually more interesting than the politard mess, but everything has its place..
