Curious coincidence.Photo is credited to Edwin L. Braun, early fifties; part of the SC High Trip of '54.

Taken in the late sixties, early seventy. There is no photo credit but it is from an ad for Time/Life's Living Water.

Two E. Brauns. E.B. Hmmm...

I think that Werner has an auntie and uncle living someplace in the Bay Area. Hmmm...

Nope.

But "Two Bears" checked out.
http://bismarcktribune.com/uncategorized/brad-two-bears/article_67e386df-2aa9-5ed1-a991-18ad1a11dbe1.html

In the year Liz passed there was a man named Brad Two Bears lived here in Atwater,
a member of their police force in some capacity, like volunteers or some such.

He was a former LA cop, a Sioux, and a practicing shaman. He and his wife were friends of Liz.
There was a to-do over her dying youngish and Brad came by to invoke the spirits,
leaving a small mound of tobacco as a propitiation, and it remained in place until he returned to reclaim it.

He's long gone, now, as well. He was pushing eighty then.

Are those Russian bears? I have some running dogs for them commie bastions.

Those appear to be Three bears, not Russian bears.

The only one I ever knew who was an actual Native American was Smallfire Hawk.

He was with us the night we tried to outredneck the rednecks.

I do not know how Three Bears are related to Ten Bears except that there are definitely more.

[Click to View YouTube Video]Surrounders is a Bluegrass band integrated by Andalusian musicians of diverse musical backgrounds from the city of Seville, Spain. This new project was conceived towards the end of 2010, where Ramón Ramos had previously co-founded bluegrass bands which were pioneers in Andalucía, like The River String Band, Blue Mountain or Grasstones. This band delivers the real thing, a true revival.

Speaking of bears, you gotta love Berkeleyites:
Starting with Weej, working your way thru cousin Connie, good old Pratt and some others like him,
and finally zBrown and me,
a bunch of un-herdable cats and mice and chicks,
a weird Easter Parade of freaks found no place else excepting in Yosemite where many wash up running from one type of success.
Merry Braun would have made it there, in Berkeley, but she would make it anywhere.
Werner got lucky, you bet.

I have heard that there was a "recall" of an ST thread because of a similar problem here lately, but there are no witnesses besides the few souls who bothered to post (mostly negative).

This is to be construed as a "gentle poke," and not a floor-to-ceiling uppercut.

Damn, I feel like I criticized Paul Ryan.

If someone is gonna delete a thread, shouldn't they delete the derivatives also, or is that too tuff a calculus.

There is a saying about wise men and danger. I will leave that to more wiser men than I. I am not feeling very wise. I am off the line again.

The line being the 'ON' line. "I am just a poor boy"--I keep coming back to The Boxer here lately--and I need to pay up my Comcast debt this week.

I am at the public trough/library.

Let me just say that I deeply regret
That having to pay for the internet
Is a fact of existence in the ether.

I could sit here and waste the rest of my scant time allowed at the public trough by trying to create a workable rhyme to go with that but I can wait and so can you, I'm sure.

My time has not been ill-spent away from the ST. I was reading Bouncing Outside (a candy dish of picaresque entertainment) over the weekend, part of the time, and this morning early I was in the Second Time Around Bookstore chatting-up the lively Alyssa (who cut here ringleted hair and it looks charming and cool). Then into the store walked Mr. Steve Cassady, author of B.O., in the flesh, and there is more than the last time because Steve has not been kayaking all that much, not like he does in the book. I joked about that and he forced a laugh and a "F*#k you" fell out of his mouth, as well.

As long as she had two reading genii in the store, Alyssa had us give her off the tops of our heads our top five favorite novels. Mine had NO FAULKNER in it, while Steve's had no Edward Abbey. I prefer Robert Lewis Taylor's Jamie McPheeters to his Absalom, Absalom. Faulkner's too serious for mice, it seems.

This is no fun. Sitting here listening to kids' noise in the library is one reason I don't come here often any longer. I remember when NO SOUNDS WERE PERMITTED in the place, other than the turning of a page or the quietest of coughs was acceptable. Now it's like a day care. I guess paying is the best way to avoid this, after all.

It rained most of the weekend.

I have written most of what will be the Travels of Moose and Mouse: A Ditty of Rocks.

Moosedrool, I hope you have a good music system in your traveling rig. Sirius would be fun, I imagine--I'd hate to think we were gonna have to listen to cassettes the whole way. There are no deal-breakers here, though, and I hope you are feeling well enough to make the trip.

I mainly wanted to forestall any questions that may arise due to my absence, as happened recently. I will be back online by the third.

My time's almost up. I have to check out Galen Clark: Yosemite Guardian and Winston Churchill by Robert Lewis Taylor. And then look for the Pluto Files by Tyson.

Neil deGrasse Tyson was asked did he believe in UFOs on this Youtube video that Alyssa had me look at earlier today. He simply might have said, "No," but that's not what he's paid to do. When she looked him up, she was claiming he was the new Carl Sagan. She couldn't remember his name, see, and I said just look up the Black Carl Sagan. Guess what?

Black Holes in Space, featuring The Muppets...

See ya, Earthlings.

In the clearing stands a boxer
A fighter by his trade
And he carries the reminders
of all the blows that struck him
and made him want to cry out
in his anger and his pain
I am leaving, I am leaving
But the fighter still remains.....

Speaking of the Bar With No Name
colloquially known as the No Name Bar
(mouse, third post this page)
My wife and I used to hang out there when we lived on our sailboat in Sausalito.
All the great SFBay jazz musicians played at one time or another. A very jolly place on Thurs, Fri and Sat nights.

A toast to the ghosts of Otis Redding, Sterling Hayden and Steinbeck.
