This is a shot of Jim and Maureen Shirley taken sometime early in their relationship, not sure when. Jim is my main old time climbing partner and my best man when I married Liz. He's the picture provider for lots of my posts.

They are the parents of twins, Catherine and Mary, age 16.

The getaway to Yosemitay.

Which is what I'm a-gonna do.

Throwpie, I have an address emergency. I lost most of my addresses and phone numbers. (Temporary, I hope. Have you seen a yellow spiral tablet, 3 x 5, anyone?)

If you'll kindly post them to me via email, Pie, I'll be one part back, and maybe I can come visit soon. Would Thursday be OK, or not OK?

It's the second time in two weeks the thing's gone missing.

Yeah, Brown is now recognized by the establishment. I don't know what year this happened or when he made these comments...

Joe's in his eighties and still hitting it.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/mobile/uk-england-manchester-12095518

I believe I posted this earlier, here, proving that twisted minds think not at all alike but come to the same concussians. Russians. Speed climbing contests.

Really, about the same time as I was realizing how the history worked in earlier climbing, Joe and Whillans were just past their prime and conswquently not "headline material" for Mountain, who chose to write about how the Russkies were promoting climbing on winches up a cliff for TIME! How untraditional can you get? Joe would've laughed his ass off at them, both the editors and the Russkies.

Now it's come full circle. We are idolators of NIAD and "Dream Teams." The seconds are gonna win these duels in the sun; and, too, the leaders will always "fall," someday maybe for reals.

Meantime, do you want to go to Tom's Thumb? It's gonna be a happy toprope party (me, THocking, and maybe Ronola) with Fizzies. We'll be heading there about the 22nd, and hopefully Ron A. will make it. Sounds like you will be busy with family, though.

A flying trip to the Valley to ask Tom Evans to help with my camera settings, which he did. Many thanks to the old pro.

While I was taking some shots of a Trifolian above me, Merry joined me for a pipe.

I spent some time over near one of my favorite spots along the river beneath Lower Brother, at the intersection of 'Positive Place' and 'Positively 4th St.'

Lilabiene knows the spot: she spent part of her first day in the Valley cleaning it up!

I spent lots of time watching the river flow. The river does nothing fast, at least in this state, yet it does everything eventually.

//For five days and four nights John Salathe (“Top”) and Anton Nelson (“Red Cap”) clung to the sheer face, one of America’s severest climbs. During daylight they inched their way up; at night they bivouacked on tiny ledges, tying themselves to iron spikes driven into fissures [experto credite]. Buffeted by cold winds, racked by thirst, and barely sustained by raisins, dates, and nuts, they achieved the summit after 103 hours of climbing, on September 3, 1947. they were the first to climb from the base of the spire to the peak.

I finally read this epic from page 1 until now - and I have to say with all seriousness that this experience has brought about more flashbacks than I thought possible given that I only took Owsley's finest about 25 times.

Note to newbies - if you wish to gorge on Mouse's feast of funk by daring to click on the Show All link - at the least, get really high on some good Indica and cue up the Dead's American Beauty album on slow repeat.

The Band at Mel's was Mike Hammar and the Nails, professionals from Merced, Winton, Atwater, and Mariposa.
The Drummer for the Nails, Greg Merino, is the brother of the Jazz Drummmer, Rudy Merino, who owned the Partisan Bar before it was called that. It used to be known as Rudy's. Before that the Trail's End.

zBrown, we amigos have come full circle, seemingly, from the FNPWD epic last year, where the Partisan was first seen here on the pages of the Taco.

From the Partisan Bar to Mel's Old West may not seem like a circle, but it's metaphor for, for the past few years, Mel Pruitt has had health troubles and has had to forego the celebration of Juneteenth. (You know Juneteenth could have been any date ranging from June 13 to June 19 and it wouldn't have made any difference, it's still gonna be celebrated.)
