It's farther from the road than it looks. The canyon running E at the base has some really interesting marble in the left fork. I'll be out there Wednesday.

Hey Dan, what is the Lippincot road like? I have heard that is scary. Someone else told us cars have rolled off of it. Others have said it isn't bad. Hunter Mountain Road, to Tea Kettle Junction, left to the Racetrack and over Lippincot into Saline Valley seems like it should be an interesting route.

What kind of vehicle lol !

Any decent 4x4 could make it now . Some tight turns , and a slight washout near the bottom that pushes you toward an edge ...

But seriously , you'd have to be pretty careless to blow it ...

A great road , not too much room to turn around though .

This is a picture of my truck taken by my friend after a glow stick fueled night at the upper springs.

We hiked up Little Hunter Canyon on the trail that leads to Bighorn Mine. We crossed into Craig Canyon near the pass on the Bighorn Mine Trail. We then descended the narrows of Craig. It is full value fun canyoneering with sections of limestone slot canyons and a good amount of cold water. A pretty fit party will have no trouble doing this loop in a day. something like 8 or 9 rappels and lots of mandatory cold swimming.

I did a solo first descent of an Inyo canyon dropping down into Saline Valley 2 years ago. I called it Black Snake Canyon. It's right in between keynot and mcelvoy canyons and had 15 rappels, and shockingly the biggest rappel was 280 ft. As the Inyo canyons are not known to have big rappels (they do not exceed 170-200 ft.)

Here's a shot of a group I took down on the second descent of this spectacular canyon, and this might explain why I named it "Black Snake Canyon"

heres the top of the 280 ft. rappel on the same second descent of the canyon:

I also did a few other first descents of the Inyo canyons, one of the canyons had very interesting white rock, and a rock feature that had a perfect white/black split in it:

In other news...

the charming bat sign has been updated:

and there was a 6 day old baby burro the last time I went to the saline valley hot springs just this past weekend June 6th-8th

We were waiting for that baby to be born a month earlier. People were following mom around thinking the day was imminent. Here is the two week old we met in the first week in May. Thanks for the update. Stoked!

PS. What's with the bathing suit?

it showed 111 in my car on the drive in as the max

it reached about 106 at the springs that weekend, probably 103-104 being the more accurate high.

Any advise getting in there with a 2wd 4runner? I have extensive experience driving off road in the desert with 2wd vehicles.
