It has happened again. A kid provoked my dog at the Dreamers and there was a small tussle, with the kid getting nipped. First off, the dog is fine and the kid owner was cussed out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please people, stop forcing nature on your kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They should put back packs on those kids, make em haul sh#t where ever they go. Slows em down some and makes em complain a lot so you can hear them coming, sorta like cowbells.

Actually that goes for my last three dogs spanning the last 32 years. None of them bit kid or adult. In spite of being "provoked," and in spite of being at the crags continually.

edit: Let me ask you this. You are bouldering, correct? So, you are not up 100 feet, or 2 or 3 pitches, correct so far? You are standing there watching your dog (hopefully) and bouldering. You see a kid attracted to your dog and what do you do? Do you intercede and sooth your dog (who is cool, right?) and facilitate a smooth kid/dog interaction? Or, do you do nothing? Too many pipeloads or what?

I had these stuffy 2nd homeowner neighbors with a goofy out of control chocolate lab that ran wild and crapped in my vegetable garden....The owner was a business professor at USC and looked like Mitt Romney...One day his dog ran over the neighbors 8 year old daughter and broke her leg... the daughters father grabbed the 50 lb. dog and knocked on the as#@&%es door...When the door opened he threw the dog at the owner knocking the owner down...Don't bring your dogs to the crags if you can't control them...

I agree WBraun. upon reading most of the threads on this site that begin with an intelligent topic , it seems someone has to post some reply with slander, off color or otherwise unrelated crap. It's as if some have a less than junior high mentality.
Especially the I QUIT themes. With freedom comes responsibility. This site doesn't have a moderator or does it ? I can't tell but if it does then he/she or they are irresponsible to allow so much negativity.
On topic , Bringing kids to climbing is a choice of the parent and tey are responsible for them. If you bring your dogs you are responsible for them . You have to teach kids to never tease dogs or go into an area whre one is without supervision. Respect for one another

I read this to my dog and she just yawned and took her position next to the kid. I don't have to protect the kid, the dog considers that her job. I don't have to protect the dog, first of all she doesn't mess with other people and... If someone messes with me, the kid or her, well... They better hope the dog takes care of it, she is a heck of a lot nicer than the man of this family. Mark my words, a heck of a lot nicer.

Cosmic, just back from a couple of days climbing and I worked on belay anchors. You'll have to replace the blue camalot....I now only use .3 camalots (blue too) for belays, number 3's are overkill.

I agree, the child should have been left at home. Children have no business rock climbing, it is dangerous and they require CONSTANT supervision, not to mention the dangers of being left out in the heat etc. per gdavis
this thread is why i occasionally check the supertopo forum PURE ENTERTAINMENT. i bring my kid to the crag, somehow she manages the heat....sometimes i bring the 2 most obnoxious dogs in the world to the crag.....ive been known to smoke weed at a crag.....drink beer at a crag.... THANK GOD WE LIVE IN A FREE WORLD!!!!!

I usually avoid people when I'm climbing, so they usually don't annoy me too much.
Dogs only annoy me when they are aggressive. If they are aggressive to me or my dogs, they will get a boot to the head. Otherwise I'll gladly share my water, give them a treat, etc.
Kids that don't scream are awesome at the crag. I'll gladly run over and spot a little one scrambling up some sketchy choss and high five them when they are done.
But that's just me, and I'm an as#@&%e.
