I can bring tortillas and bell peppers. Would Sat. at around 6pm. work? That way we miss music rather than the Alex H. show (which is Fri. night).

Saturday seems fine to me. There is a big towable BBQ available, but we'd need to request it (through Ken), tow it to Yeller Pines (and back) so a trailer hitch is needed, plus have fuel for it.

The options seem to be:
1. Standard do it yourself BBQ, where people bring everything they each want to eat and drink, and there's a grill provided.
2. #1, plus people bring communal food and drink. (We did this the first year.)
3. #2, plus someone like Eric does some extras.
4. As in previous years at YP, where someone(s) provides the meat and organization and gets it cooked, plus people bring salads, drinks, desserts.

As Eric says, by donation to the YCA. Let me know what I can do to help.

There's no reason not to have both a DY BBQ and have some communal food. If we can get reasonably organized we can hit it at more or less the same time and have a big spread.

How about we just say that if you cook something up you put it on the big table. If you don't contribute food you should donate (or both).

I have a hitch on my truck so I can Pikup Andropov the BBQ.

I would have preferred Friday 'cause I like to go to Oktoberfest in El Portal, but I'd guess most people don't want to miss hearing Alex spray.

I will bring:

30 beef (90/10 sirloin) or buffalo patties 1/3 lb each
30 hamburger buns
sliced cheese
2 bottle of ketchup
2 bottles mustard

as my contribution.
Is Yellow pines on a map somewhere? I'm staying outside the park so won't be in an assigned tent space.

How many people usually come to Meatfest?

Awesome!

Personally I figure if we can't get at least 10-15 people here to express interest we should scale things back. It doesn't make sense to cook for 50 people if 80% is left-over.

Yellow Pine is beside Sentinel beach. After the El Cap turn-around keep going and you'll see the sign on the left. Once you pull down that road instead of going right go to the left past the big "authorized entry only" signs.

Although it's Labor Day, I suspect many potential MeatFest goers are out climbing today, rather than Laboring. Thanks for getting the ball rolling Khanom. I'm sure this thread will get more attention by tomorrow...

Google maps link

Open the gate if necessary and keep to the left just past it. Look for the campground full of upstanding citizens, and drive by it respectfully; we'll be at the other one.

I may be sitting out this year's MeatFest. I'm not sure if I want to bring my kid into a hantavirus bathpool. He likes to get down and dirty.

Seems like a poor choice as a parent.

It sounds like the menu is missing beans. I'm happy to make a giant pot of borrachos for the crew. Any takers?

Someone needs to go over to rockclimbing.com to locate the exiled fatrad- he may have meatfest plans.

I'm in.

No. Only that it has proven recently fatal in Yosemite. Fill me in though...

Sorry blurring, didn't mean to sound accusing. It's just ridiculous that people are avoiding Yosemite in general because a few tent cabins in curry weren't cleaned properly.

First, when camping, exposure is pretty much impossible because UV rays kill the virus, and the ventilation of being outside gives you a risk of about zero.

Second, hantavirus has been around since the 90s confirmed, likely unconfirmed cases for a long time before that. There are a couple cases every few years.

Antiseptics like Lysol and Bleach kill the virus.

You are much much more likely to get swept away by the water than contract a rare virus like Hantavirus. You are much more likely to die by rockfall.
