Last weekend, Cleo and I decided to get married. We only had a wedding because campsites opened up at Tuolumne Meadows and we were able to get two group sites on a weekend in June.

Incredible luck, but it gave us 2 1/2 weeks to plan and organize an event many people take months and even years to do. Well, we opened our hearts to chaos and let our friends help us make an event that I will always remember.

We got a permit to have the ceremony on the eastern beach of Tenaya Lake, a place we often head to after a day's climbing is done.

Only Cleo and I dressed up, leading to a very low stress and more fun time.

Here she is before I got to see her

Val's dad, Fred, didn't even have to wear pants all weekend. He was ecstatic!

Simple vows. Less talking and more music:

to be faithful and honest,
to love and respect you,
to stand by you in times of sorrow and joy,
to rescue you when you swim out of your kayak,
to care for you in sickness and in health,
to not run it out when lead climbing,
to make you laugh,
and to be your companion and your friend,
up rocks, down rivers, and all the times in between.
I promise!

Cleo had her own version
to be faithful and honest,
to love and respect you,
to stand by you in times of sorrow and joy,
to trust you when we are kayaking,
to promise not to ditch you while skiing,
(unless its a powder day),
to care for you in sickness and in health,
to make you laugh,
and to be your companion and your friend,
up rocks, down rivers, and all the times in between.
She promises!

Since it was such a nice day, our friends had to cool off in the lake

After the ceremony, it was time for pictures! At times, it felt like we were being stalked by paparazzi. I've never had so many cameras pointed at me. However, everyone was having a lot of fun so it made it all worth while.

Very cool, Congratulations. Sure wish more of my friends would have chosen something remotely similar and not Waikiki.

Very nice vows to each other...take care of yourself on those big powder days!

Awwwww! Congratulations!

I hope that Joey was looking on the proceedings involving his peeps, and happy with everything. "About time", he's probably thinking.

MH et. al.,

Thanks you guys! Of course, sticking with the unconventional thing, Cleo is off on a kayaking trip and I'm stuck at home without her for a week. Hey, I'm the kayaker!

The pic of Joey reminded me of this one.

This was when we were first dating. Joey was a new tripod. Looks like he approved of me.
