There's nothing at all unusual about this years Pac High position. Sailing a rhumb line course from Crescent City/Eureka to Hi is taking him very close to the no wind zone. In fact, it's going to get progressiively lighter over the next 96 hours.

His best bet would have been to stay in the squash zone running south, and not making the turn towards HI until they were around the 1020mb line. They're committed now though and a gybe south will aim them at Turtle Bay. IOW, the siesta direction.

Right now all of the TransPac navigators are pouring over the wx data and 5 day forecasts trying to figure out how to get off of the SoCal coast. Right now it looks like the course will be S of rhumb line.

I was thinking they should have held that southern cuorse for quite a bit longer. You're confirming my own feelings after looking at the wind maps.

It’s that time again... every two years.
Boat is hauled, getting bottom painted today (all they had in stock was red...will be interesting...at $1400 for 5 gallons...almost as expensive as printer ink).

Race starts June 23rd. Fingers crossed all goes well. This will be Mike’s sixth or seventh time.

She’s a beaut, for sure, but what’s the story behind the name? Why not Chevre Noir?

Should know the way by now? Out the pass, turn left, get away from that gray cold water, angle towards warm blue water and the tropics..........Piece of cake mate!

We will try and get up there for the send off.
