Thought I smelled smoke earlier.
Reminds me of the former governor Owens "All of Colorado is Burning" days.
Nasty stuff--this hot spell is about as hot and weird of weather as I can remember in over 20 years here.

Fire is crazy. I lost a dozen friends due to a helicopter crash, when I lived at a backcountry fire camp in Idaho (krassel). A couple more got burned over protected by their fire blanket that year.

May God be with the wildland fire fighters this year. It is the risky business of the fire world. Its going to be a bad year.

Gotta wonder if this is divine retribution on a town that spends more to protect rodents than homeless people.

Piton Ron, I probably don't disagree with your prognosis on conservation (just guessing), but that is more than a little harsh. This is deadly business, and one shouldn't make light of it.

It is spreading rapidly. Pre evac reverse 911 calls are going out for west side of boulder.

The last fire I saw in Boulder was that burn they did near Eldo that got out of control.

This is our fire in Waldo Canyon down in the Springs. The pyrocumulus cloud is at 28,000 or so.

Stitch, I hate to say it, but that's a beautiful picture. Shame it comes from such destruction.

Here near downtown Denver it's trying really hard to rain. but the wind just kicked in and it's gusting at 30mph or more.

off to crushers slide show in a bit and hoping for the best for everyone!

There were three lightning strike fires started here today, last time I checked (Boulder and outskirts): North Boulder area, Eldorado Canyon area, and Walker Ranch. My understanding was, as of several hours ago, that only the Walker Ranch is uncontained.

The picture in the OP is showing that fire, which is just behind the Flatirons to the West.

Here in Nederland it was 0% humidity yesterday and 85° at 6 PM. Right now it is 8% humidity and 82° and it's just after six o'clock. This is at 8200 feet.

Spring started March 1. Not super hot right away, but almost no rain since then. Then Boulder Denver area got into the triple digits temperature-wise over the weekend.

Piton Ron!

I'm always up for humor and that was a good one. (Not withstanding fire is absolutely horrific terrible).
Characteristically, however, you would attribute it to Niwot's Curse. Chief Niwot, so the legend goes, cursed all us Boulder folk to suffer a fate of never ending spiritual quest, unsatiated and unrequited.

Now, check out all the goofy fringe spirituality stuff happening here (i.e., Boulder is 25 mi.² surrounded by reality hater slogan) and he seems to be getting one over on us!
And your jibe is really dead on that mark, with the save the rodent ordeal (prairie dogs) sitting squarely on that side of the fence.

Yeah, not much better here in UT. This is going to be a long, hot, dangerous summer.

Just landed. No mountains visible due to smoke at dia. Table mesa is being evaced west of broadway. That includes many good people and is blocks from our home. Somehow I dont find any humor in this. Everyone take care.
