My poor Zuni is at death's door right now. She hasn't eaten in 2 weeks and her organs are failing. Nothing I can do but give her love and make sure she sits in every windowsill to get light and fresh air. Breaks my heart, she's such a good cat.

Fluoride, I'm so sorry to hear that. Is Zuni older? Poor girl. Hang in there.

She's 12. I lost her little sister a year ago December to the same thing. Respiratory problem which in cats is pretty much a death sentence. Only Sedona hung on for almost a year. Zu just got sick a few weeks ago and is near death.

I'm so sorry. I'm sure she had a lovely life with you and her sister. Sounds like you're doing a great job keeping her as comfortable as possible, which is all you can do. I hope she passes without too much suffering.

My childhood dog had kidney failure and it sounds similar; went on for about a year. It was really hard to know when her suffering completely overcame everything else.

Ah, so sorry Fluoride. You two are lucky to have one another.

Yosguns. The pain of losing them is worse than words can describe. But I have to say it's even harder to describe the joy they bring. Raising my birds and loving my birds is the thing I am most proud of in my life. Nothing has brought me such indescribable joy.

Flouride,

Your experience with Zuni seems exactly like ours with Jordan. He ate, but very little, and with seemingly great difficulty. The vets could not determine any feasible action, so we just kept him comfortable. He died at the foot of my bed while I was recovering from Achilles tendon surgery, purring almost until the end.

While my wife and I are still sad to lose him, we are happy that he was seemingly comfortable enough to be able to spend his last days in familiarly loving surroundings.

You have our sympathy (whose profundity other pet owners doubtless understand).

It's not small or petty. My own pets were family members. They "Loved" and that's everything. I hope he surprises you by strolling back into the house from God knows where. If not, may he be in a good place in either life or death. May you find comfort in the fact that your family loved him well. In the end that's the best gift you can give, the best act and everything else is just silly "maybe" that don't count.

My sympathies to Flouride, yosguns, and all of you that have ailing or missing kitties. . .

My babies are doing fine, thank you; they're still young.

My thoughts are with you folks.

What Anastasia said! My mom's cat (who is still alive) literally took care of my mom. She knew what was going on with her.

I just spent three hours at the vets today and was told my cat's blood sugar is
high, maybe diabetes or maybe just stress because something's wrong with his
liver as well. Pills and IV's and told to come back in a week for more testing.

At least it isn't kidneys, I've had two other cats die of that - one at 18 1/2
and the other at 20. This little cat is only ten years old however.

I have rescued several beautiful Siamese cats that someone paid a lot of
money for and must have been heartbroken to lose. Sometimes they get in
car windows and ride a long ways away or just wander off to a new home for
some reason. There are lots of stories of prodigal cats, so it's good to keep
up hope that if they don't return, they could have found a good home like the
one I gave to the cats I've found.

Thanks, Jan. I shared that with my mom who's pretty sure a bobcat or coydog got him...
