Just wanted to let all of you know I have much admiration for all of you and your climbing feats. I know it is embarrassing of my personal account with experience at Half Dome and the only time I've been to Yosemite. If nothing else, the main point I want to get across is don't let a friend psych you out or scare you away from the last Half Dome Ascent, like my friend did to me:

Double for me, G.

And another double to the demise of Granstar in a brothel, no, a cave, no, in a hole of some kind, but what?

I got the same kindo message.

Satan's totally got it under control.

He was joking about it.

Why did Granstar cross himself before he crossed the road?

Even though he's a Chicken and a Presbyterian, he thought he might as well cover the bases before crossing.

Who cares why he wanted to cross the road. I'm surprised he considered coming here!

Smooch-smooch.

God what a slack-jaw!

Wow mouse wasn't expecting that. Did I say something to tick you off or just in a bad mood? Most people seem really cool on here from the posts I've seen so guess that caught me off guard."

So yes I apologize to all of you who are accomplished climbers including you Mouse. In retrospect I really didn't come prepared with no gloves and was wearing one of those popular Nike hiking shoes back in early 2000's which wasn't great quality especially for any climbing. But never-the-less I wasn't coming on here to make any enemies, quite the opposite hoping to make friends. So hope to get to know more of you on here. When I read stuff about David Breashears and Alex Lowe, they are truly inspirational and amazing accomplishments! Best wishes to all of you,

Grant

I came into this discussion way late, but my sympathies go out to the Leeder family. Many of you have made several good, thought-provoking, points on here. My only trip I took to Yosemite, with a group of friends from Bel Air Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles in I believe August of 2002, I had full intention of going to the top of Half Dome. Then the afternoon before our group was going on the Half Dome hike, one of my friends started talking about how it was so dangerous and so many had slipped and fallen off that last ascent. I never really thought of myself as a wuss, being pretty athletic and playing college basketball, but that did mess with my head and ended up not making it to the top of the Half Dome. I should have known that my friend was messing with my head and he was always joking around like that, but still let it get to me too much lol! So I went to the end of that last hike before you do the last one to the top which I believe is the Nevada Falls, which was still beautiful and a wonderful experience. I'm not living in Los Angeles or California now, but hope to get back to Yosemite again sooner that later, and this time complete the Half Dome. All the best to all of you!

Accomplished climbers?

Climbers may care but the rest of the world has no freakin clue.

Much like most of the important things in life.

Thanks for reply Climbski :) I just thought from mouse's response to me that I wouldn't be welcomed on here. And I know a lot of you have done some impressive stuff like Mark Hudon for example :)

Bad mood doesn't even describe it. I refer you to my comments made yesterday in the thread Snake Hike, in which I almost said that Little Yo is a place people go to have things happen to them. Seems like lots of people have unusual experiences ther, but it's probably just me.

I apologize. This is a forum, everyone's views count, everyone's experiences are valid. Harsh comments are not called for. More than half the time we are just having fun. I got carried away.

Little Yo is one of the most overrun spots in the Park. It's a place where a lot of people get into trouble because of its accessibility. People who are unprepared or ignorant of the potential danger to which they expose themselves needlessly tends to piss us all off, some hold that in better than others.

I have been given pause to have thought that I am better, to hold myself in judgment. I have been carried out of the area above Nevada Fall and it was not my fault I was injured, but I still was unfortunate. It was an exceptionally tragic year in the Park in 2011. We are all, experienced or not, reminded to be careful and humble because sh#t happens, people are always going to get in over their heads, and ain't shiyit you can do so axxept it and keep movin.

Mr. Granstar,

FWIW, i read your post shortly after you posted it and thought it was very honest and thought provoking(in a good way). You obviously have much respect for the Valley, and park in general and expressed a desire to return and fulfill your hopes to get to the top of HD. That is admirable in it's own right(imo). I couldn't figure out why someone would respond to your personal decision not to continue on up that day. I am sure you would have made it to the top. Your origional post was a very positive one and declared the wonder and beauty of the Valley. I'm not sure why Mouse reacted in such a way. He is generally a very personable and positive guy. He does have a rather dry sense of humor at times and can be rather direct when the notion to do so captures him. If you were to move to the Valley, or take up climbing wherever you are, I'm sure you would fit in as a climber in no time at all. For the most part, we have all chickin shitted out of some climb, lead or whatever. So don't be so hard on yourself. Take care, and thanks for posting up(TFPU)!!

edit: Btw, your welcome here. And if you took any pics on your hike, post them up. Hope your able to make it back to Yosemite some day.

Thanks mouse and splitter! No hard feelings mouse :) I felt bad enough about it on my own when all my friends were telling me after the fact that like 12 yr old girls and boys were making up to the top of the Half Dome like it was nothing lol! I was like gee thanks for telling me that now :)

I was reading that account of those last 4 climbers that died on Everest and then the one young girl from Canada that made it to summit and back down talking about how she had to move around their dead bodies-unbelievable! I worked in Indiana State Police for a while and worked some fatality accidents and that was absolutely an awful experience.

Thanks Riley! I know I need to toughen up and get a little thicker skin for sure lol! Reading about those suicides though was a sad thing. I've been down and out in periods of time of my life, but never felt that alone and helpless where it had to come to that. Thank God for great family and friends!

Ah, bullshit! Texas? I take it all the f*#k back!

Jist kiddin, Tex.

Lone Star vs. Half Dome and Splitter just stands amazed (I do love my Park).

Riley vs. Wyna

Climbing girly-climbs with a girl. Nice trip report.

Everyone's cool, so I'm off to school.

Lol! Very true mouse. Not sure what good climbing spots are in Texas-must be West Texas where there are still some smaller mountain areas. But this area around Dallas where I'm at is extremely flat.

I live in Teaxs, for some horrible reason I forget, but work in Cali for all the right reasons!

I'm happy right now because I have got a little climbing in the last week and my kids fly out in 2 days!
Having fun with my kids in Cali is the biggest reason I went through all this added stress.

So I understand as much as anybody that Texas sucks!

Lol
Mouse - come on!
No way those run outs can qualify as girl climbing! LOL
How can Sacherer say such hateful things..lol

I would keep that offer that Riley made you under lock and key and hold him to his promise(i'm sure he will follow through). You couldn't ask for a more skilled or accomplished climber, leader, guide. He is passionate about climbing, very accomplished and he would definitely teach you the ropes. Texas isn't that far from the Valley, people come from the far corners of the world to climb there year after year.

Thanks splitter :) Yeah I need to get out of this funk I've been in here and get back out there for sure. Yosemite was such an awesome experience for me, as well as the fun times on the Sunset Strip, Santa Monica 3rd Street Promenade & Pier and Hermosa, Manhattan, Malibu, Laguna and several other of the beaches out there. Fun times!

MousefromM:

Nice of you to step up and apologize to Grant. Clearly Grant is new to the ever-changing dynamics of posting on this site. Much is read into posts that isn't there and more often true intent of posts are lost in cyberspace.

Then there is always that bit of attitude and self righteousness that leaves readers baffled sometimes. At any rate +1 for you and a strike against the evil empire.
