Tom Patey's The Art of Climbing Down Gracefully is a classic article on this topic.

I guess I'm "in the middle" right now-not old nor young (37). But I seriously feel things seeming more difficult-I think because of injuries and what-not. The best advice mentioned is just trying to remain in shape... when I'm not working on that, it's painful trying to get back where I was. Oh, and I see people older than me who seriously kick ass-strong people who can out-hike & climb me on my good days-I think that's cool. I always want to climb-even if it is just 5.0's or 2.5's ;-) as I continue on.

Sign me up for the Rope Muskets! Of course, to my generation, LSMFT still refers to a product of the American Tobacco Company.

Be careful referring to yourself as a rope gun, or perhaps even a rope musket.

Yes John, LSMFT was an inside joke; it has nothing to do with anything in the post itself. I thought it might be fun to put something in that looked like one of the modern acronyms but which you had to be kinda old to recognize.

Those "Da Diapers" do great for "Da Mega Load"...

LFMST, or whatever the acronym is... can someone tell me what that means? Seriously, I see it on kids post's and such, and am always baffeled by it. Is baffeled a word???

Huh, weird. I forgot what I was talking about :)

LSMFT: Lucky Strike Means Fine Tobacco. It was used often on The Jack Benny program during their sponsorship of his show(s).

I'm only thirty one but I was an odd child whose earliest and most enduring childhood heroes were Jack Benny and Bob & Ray.

LFMST, though, no idea.

“I begin to wonder
Is it worth the pain
Get so twisted
That you wind up lame
Maybe it’s my technique
Or is it my shoes
Just another white boy
With the disco blues

Sometimes my body does
Things that my brain don’t understand
I’m not the man I was
But my feet still think I am…”

I have never been able to understand the focus here on first ascents. Just wait.

All ascents will become firsts.

McCarthy started that, didn't he?

Yes John, LSMFT was an inside joke...

Why come up with a new acronym anyway? Hasn't OFMC been active for decades?

I seem to be on the losing end of that one.

You are right. Both Hoffman and Johnson are 5.13 climbers.
But Hoffman is not quite 70 yet. I stand corrected.

A couple of years back, I couldn't find vitamin I at the drugstore.

I finally realized it wasn't in the vitamin section.
