Since we learned that the Boulder "Happy-Hour" organizer was going to be in our neighborhood, it seems like a Idaho party is a good idea.

Heidi & I are planning on a "Meet & Greet" Happy hour, with us supplying some water, beer, wine, and hors d'oeuvres.

City of Rocks Campsite #20 at 7:00 PM on Tuesday July 3rd.

If you plan on attending?? please RSVP on this thread, or if you don't want the world to know------shoot me a PM. I need to get a handle on quantity of snacks & drinks!

We are requesting no dogs at this event-----please!

They are attending, but if someone wants to share our large camp, (their own tent or van, no dogs please) they are welcome.

Oh! fellow campers can't express displeasure with my loud snores during the night!

I've only climbed at CoR once, for two days. Then it rained. Are people planning on being there for four or five days before/during/after the 3rd? In other words, will there be people I can belay and stuff? And what about camping - would I need to make a preservation?

It was "mildly breezy" Monday & Tuesday nights at The City, and I shivered in the shade whenever it overtook me on Tuesday.

Mark, one of my old climbing buddies who hasn't climbed in years, went to The City with Heidi and me, and I warmed him up on Monday, then Donini kindly put the rope up on some harder routes on Tuesday for us.

Mark gamely tried everything, as did Heidi.

Wednesday morning, Mark, Heidi, and I went back to pleasant 5.6 & 5.7 climbing, but Mark was getting a little played out. I think he is ready to replace his vintage 1978 RR Verappes too.

It was great to meet other friends of Donini’s that post on ST, and socialize with them.

Ionlyski (Arne) from Kalispel, his wonderful wife April, and their two talented, polite, & hot-climbing teenagers were fun to see climbing and pleasant to talk with.

TWP from Mancos is a hoot to be around, and a good climber too.

Donini’s classy & beautiful wife Angela had driven up for the event along with his Ouray friend Roger. Both are great people and very good climbers.

The people made up for the nasty evening wind & chill!

Crimpergirl! I'm sure that takes care of the cold weather. 82 F. there today.

I have spent much of the last two weeks at City of Rocks, climbing with Donini, Heidi, and other friends.

This weekend! I'll see what I can do for whitewater-training with my beginning IK (inflatable-kayak) students. One of them is the permit holder for our late July Middle Fork Salmon trip.

As I have learned: it is self-defeating to kill or injure the permit-holder before the river-trip.

Monday: I'm back to City of Rocks to hopefully meet up and climb with Locker, his friends, and Brokedown.

Most important is the: July 3rd City of Rocks: Meet & Greet for Brassnuts, Crimpergirl, Pente, and other wonderful people.

If you want to attend!

Please reply, or private message me through ST for the City of Rocks July 3rd Meet & Greet!

Is there internet service in Almo or somewhere near? Cell service? Have not one, but two (boo) conference calls I need to do while there.

Any temperature is going to be like a cold front for those in Boulder these days. I'm in the Houston area enjoying some cooler weather. Poor BN is stuck in the Boulder Sahara.

See you soon!

Skully: I'll see if I can find Seth & friends. Brokedown & I have a "warm-up" spot near Twin Sisters.

Crimpergirl! Yes to cell and internet in Almo, but not at COR. Verizon & ATT for sure in Almo.

The State Park HQ now works with a internet provider to give access to 20 minutes of free wireless internet daily and reasonable rates beyond that.

When did they reopen Twin Sisters?

I last climbed the Sisters like 15 years plus ago. My second or third time. Last time I remember they were off limits, "banned".

Something stupid about polluting the view-shed with climbers. But once they closed it, I followed the closure.

One of the nicer routes in the COR, and the actual route is on the opposite side of the view-shed...

When did it get reopened? Or did it?

You guys hitting the register (Camp Rock) next, down at the entrance?

When did they reopen Twin Sisters?

I think the Twin Sisters area, with camping, has always been open excepting the main, namesake formations, the Twin Sisters themselves. There's a gob of climbing (and some nice campsites) out there.

Uhhh...I mean, yeah, its closed, its closed! Ha ha.

Yeah, be tough to see climbers from the road, or, the historic trail. The best routes do face the road. Pioneer Route, Cowboy Route, Lowe Route, Straight Edge...all face the road. All great routes.

Woot! Woot! This will be my first "fly & climb" vacation trip! I've been pruning down the weight of my equipment to a bare minimum, and will be airborne early tomorrow morning. I'll be buying my ice and beer in Burley, as well as propane for my Coleman camp stove. Should be a blast. From Casper to Burley, ID: 2:45 hours flying time, versus 9:30 hours driving time. I finally found a source for a rental car, too!

The smoke is greatly reduced this morning, and airport visibility reported as 10 statute miles. Yesterday it was below VFR minimums at 2.5 miles (3 miles is necessary for VFR). I'll be cruising at 10,500 feet above ground level (AGL). I'll briefly climb to 12,500 feet to clear some mountains in Utah before descending to Burley.

Bump! I just arrived home after a very difficult flight due to weather considerations. The GOOD NEWS is it's raining here in Wyoming!! Woot, woot!

The Flight Service Station operated by Lockheed-Martin called the weather a Monsoon flow, which is great for all the fires, but grounded my return until very late. I arrived in Casper at 2156 hrs, exactly 4 minutes before the Fixed base Operation closed for the night; I did get my airplane towed inside out of the weather as a result.

Brokedown! Glad you made it home without encountering "cumulogranite" clouds enroute!

Indeed! There was climbing, but I didn't take photos, except while walking in we noticed Brass Nuts & Crimpergirl on a rather difficult route on Parking Lot Rock: Cairo 11a.

The afternoon was a bit warm, and after a very late lunch, we bid Scully & Brian farewell, and Brokedown, Stein, Hossjulia, Heidi, & I sought shade in camp.

We discovered that Michelle had got something in an eye, that camp medicine could not cure. Crimpergirl had to drive her to the county hospital in Burley, where the problem was sucessfully treated.

Cocktail hours started early with the mandatory "here's to cheating death" toast.

Pete & Kim arrived back from a day of climbing hard and we worked up a yummy shared dinner party.

Stein warmed up the crowd by showing us how much fun the straitjacket could be.

Kim agreed that restraint was needed so she could Houdini out of the straitjacket. She couldn't.

Then the hula-hoops came out.

The night of the 4th was a hoot. I noticed the over 50 crowd was the loudest in camp. (Promptly done at 10 mind you.) Playing with a straitjacket, wide angle SLR and hoops to classic rock. Really loud classic rock. Great "pot-luck", and not a "merican flag in site. yah-hoo.
