In a few more years she'll come to Yosemite and free solo the nose.

"It goes boys" will be her first words after the ascent.

While all those drooling aid fools holding their dumb beers on El Cap bridge are standing there looking stooopid .....

“She’s this adorable little girl who climbs hard and cries when she doesn’t send,” said Andrew Tower, the editor in chief of Urban Climber magazine. “Her climbing I.Q. is so high, you show her how to do something and she soaks it up really quickly. She understands innately how to move.

Uh, that doesn't mean she can 'climb.' Besides, is crying part of our process of failing? It's just a f*cking climb...

Pick on someone your own size, ec. She's eleven years old. Maybe coming off as a crusty embittered old guy doesn't fit into her idea of how to respond to a climb, either- to each his own, y'know?

As to the question of whether she can climb, I think the footage makes that clear. just a primate having fun.

Rhodo,
My post reflects what I believe (IMO) is contrary to what I believe a parent/trainers should instill in their kids, if they choose to have them climb. From the comment in the article, I see a 'twisted' motivation...

ec, surely you are joking? It is hard for me to see what's twisted about the parents' motivation. Ashima came to climbing on her own-- her parents didn't even know this sport existed. I see Ashima with her dad at Brooklyn Boulders all the time and from my viewpoint he seems the very opposite of the psycho sports dad.

I find her inspiring to watch, a true talent.

at 4:37, I notice her big toes are bent after 5 years of climbing (and not much weight to support).

I have been having serious pain with that after 30 years & need to get x-rays & a fix.
