Hey all,

A good climbing friend of mine is riding his bicycle across the U.S. to raise funds for the Injured Marine Semper Fi
Fund.

I'd like to ask your support on his behalf while he rides. Much of his ride is a lonesome affair and he can't do his fund raising in person, so I'm going to try and enlist the climbing community's support.

I realize donor fatigue is high right now and climbers don't always have funds, so don't kill yourself on donating. But as they say, every little bit helps.

If you haven't heard of it, the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit set up to provide immediate financial support for injured and critically ill members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families. They direct urgently needed resources to post 9-11 Marines and Sailors, as well as members of the Army, Air Force or Coast Guard who serve in support of Marine forces.

For those that think the government will take of returning soldiers, I would urge you to check out their site and see the amazing work they do

http://semperfifund.org/

It's essentially a 3,164 mile solo bicycle ride beginning at the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center in Bridgeport California, and ending at the home base of 2nd Marine Division in Jacksonville NC to raise awareness and funds. 100% of the funds raised go directly to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund. Donations are tax deductible.

Target Goal - $50,000
Currently at - just over 24k

For more information please see the website or follow him on Facebook.

You can get his "SitReps" (updates) here...

Amazing stories in NV with heinous heat, UT on reservation, and he's now into Colorado on the Mountain phase. Naturally the time for climbers to be aware. :)

His progress is posted in real time as he rides across the U.S...

That is the cool part.

If you see him on the road, say hi.

Thx Mike

Lot of folks think, ah hell, they're marines, they'll be fine. And they do, but when one gets stuck in between the cracks, the Fund seems to make all the difference in the world.

OOOOOOOH Rahh Munge! Just got back from working the Wounded Warrior Games in Colorado Springs, Marines wiped the competition out. Is this the Sea to Sea ride? I'm gonna do a ride for an organization called Ride 2 Recovery which takes Wounded Warriors and takes them on "tours" of about 400-500 miles in 6 days. Getting my team ready for our ride of the California Coast in late October. Hope he reaches both of his goals. Good luck and best wishes on a successful ride and fund raising.
Peace

Ron,

Having friends and family that were marines, it is no surprise the Marines kicked ass! :)

Ride 2 Recovery sounds sweet!

Essentially it is a sea to sea kind of deal, but not "The" Sea to Sea ride mentioned here http://s2ssbikeride.org/meet-the-riders/ though Tim was motivated by it. Tim's is a solo ride. One guy, one bike, self contained, no vehicle support, lots of open bivys... and yet thoroughly connected via the internet. Through the generosity of the people he has met along the way... the offer of a place to shower is probably so he doesn't smell funny when he talks to folks about the Fund. ;)

I really don't doubt that Tim will meet his goals, but it just may take a bit of doing.

Thx Ron and Chalky Fingers!

Just over 36k raised!!

But only 75 miles left.

Tax write off.

Doing something for those that sacrificed.
