Sheer brilliance . . . no chalk and no sticky rubber!

A cinematic masterpiece if you will.

Even older. Older than the dirt under god's fingernails.

And twice as gnarly.

So, it would seem the actor has some climbing time under his belt. I believe it's Buster Keaton. Anybody out there know of him climbing?

And, the film is Badazz!

He was my pick for the earliest "climbing film" on another thread.

Amazing stunts...

It's Harold Lloyd, Safety Last (obviously) ... what you see is what he did: no rope, no pro, & actually that far up.

I particularly love his outfit. Dang! I could see him doing that in lycra or dolphin shorts...but Buster Browns!? Seriously!?!?

Check out this guy in the obscure 1977 compilation movie, "Gizmo!"
John Ciampa, the "Brooklyn Tarzan", looks circa 1940's perhaps?
Old basketball shoes, just like Royal started out with.
In strictly climbing mode, I don't know what's the best, the speed chimneying, running up a tree, or the wall leap - but then he goes thru the Matrix, a quantum leap off a moving train?!
Seriously, think about the fast-twitch needed to do buildering moves, about 5 times faster than Hans on the Nose.

I was fortunate to see the Harold Lloyd film in full with a live piano player doing the background the way silent films were meant to be viewed. It was a great experience. Definitely worth the watch. I read it was filmed in the old theater district in downtown LA.

Hah, hah, we used to do that trick of rolling around in a tractor tire when I was a kid. I vaguely remember some crashes into trees.
