As much as I love Zeppelin, I do think they should have given proper credit for all the lyrics and music they didn't write (but shamelessly and knowingly took credit for). I know there's nothing new under the sun, and everything's a remix, but still, Page is totally full of shite. Here's about 20 minutes of examples:

Etc.
They were still a hell of a cover band.

my favorite quote about Zep was from Ted Nugent. When discussing the influence of British bands and Zep, Nugent replied "Led Zeppelin is about as British as a f#cking Ford".

There is some video out there of little Jimmy Page on an old black and white TV show in Britain. Some kind of talent show, little Jimmy and his guitar, classic!

'We're gonna groove' from how the west was won is probably my favorite. That footage from the 1970 concert at royal albert hall is seminal. I'm one of those who believes that early zep was waaaaay better than later zep. I think they peaked when IV came out - 1972. Just listen to Plant's voice over the years. After this things went downhill. There are exceptions...I happen to really love 'in the light'. Of course Kashmir is awesome. Other than that most of their stuff was thin after 1973 or so.
If you get a chance listen to hey joe from the band of joy (pre zep) - best Plant voice ever.

Walleye,
I was at that Day on the Green. Me and my friends sold a lot of aluminum cans to get enough cash to go to that concert. Got there around 6 AM. It was a scene.
When they opened the gates, it was crazy. This one girl fell down and was getting trampled, but my friends and I were able to make a sort of wedge that diverted the crowd around her and let her get up.
Didn't Rick Derringer play that day too?

They sure as hell didn't on their early tours. I don't know if it was their
first or second tour which I saw them but they gave full value and then some.
They came on after an awesome set by The Doors which would have been
a really tough act to follow but they more than delivered. THEY ROCKED!

I enjoy the Zep but if don't know they stole a bunch of their classics, you don't know rock and roll.
It could be a legal nightmare but it would be very cool of Jimmy & Robert to come forward and give credit where credit is due.

I was at that Day on the Green as well.
Priest opened and was booed off the stage,
Derringer played next and did the hotest cover of Helter Skelter I've ever heard,
Then came Zep........THEY ABSOLUTELY SUCKED!!!
So much so that I left the concert and spent the rest of the time in the parking lot-they sounded better out there!

March 27th, 1970. This was the only time I ever saw them. It was a birthday present from my parents, on my birthday no less lol. No opening act, just Led Zepplin. It was a fun time indeed.

Unfortunately/fortunately I was too young to see Zep live. But I did see the Page/Plant tour at Cal Expo. I was there about 3 hours before they opened the gate for general seating and was surprised to see I was in the first 15 people in line. I thought there would've been people there all day. Jogged/Ran to the stage (while all the ushers are telling people to walk" and we were center stage, 2nd row. I guess if they had gone by Led Zep for that tour I wouldn't have been able to be so close.
Blind Melon opened. They were really good. Unfortunately their singer died shortly after.
Page and Plant played and looked great. I'm sure like many bands they have their good and bad days. With drugs/alcohol probably being the biggest factor.
Zep did take a lot of stuff, but they also innovated like crazy.

Loved their first two records - Saw them touring their second album and they sucked. The Bay Area was full of great rock bands you've probably never heard of that rocked it live. Plus all the great bands you HAVE heard of...
Zeppelin were posers. and then there is the story of what they did to one of Bill Graham's crew members back stage at the Oakland Coliseum...they suck.

Have any of the original Zep crew had liver transplants yet? That seems to be obligatory for a long-term rocker, especially if they combine meds with alcohol on a regular basis.

Been expanding the iTunes playlist so I occasionally go back and sample stuff I haven't heard in a while. I have to say, as much as I liked them back in the day, I continue to be impressed with their range and sound. Not the best band ever but, after the Beattles and the Stones, they have few peers.

^^^that's my favorite zep right there!
they were young'ins back in 69'. man, has anybody ever moved more authentically to the music, or work so much to render his voice as an instrument? the sounds from that 69' video are still ringing in my ear.. that guitar tho is lead vocal, my god where did those sounds come from? i don't think anyone was more of a fan of Page than Plant was! it looks like plant was following page. but it sounds visa-versa.
they're was something uniquely special about LedZep!?
i was only 6 when that vid was made. to young to understand what the impression LZ made that brought them into the lime-light.
anybody here experience the evolution of the music world through the 60's, what was the word goin around on what LZ was bringing across the pond? in the beginnings what was the allure of americans?
