Bruce and Dave will now demand the names of my "imaginary" friends at the "imaginary" organizations listed... They seem to suspend their critical facilities when it comes to the proposal, and this thread.

Not at all. I'm sure your friends and their organizations are real. And I personally am not interested in their names. All I said was that if I were as passionately opposed to the project as you are, I wouldn't keep their names secret. As long as I felt they were credible, I'd be shouting their names loudly and often.

For what feels like the five hundredth time, I am not pro-gondola, and I don't understand why you keep acting as though I were campaigning on behalf of the developers. I'm not anti-gondola either, which may -- in your eyes -- mark me as Satan's right-hand man, but that's more a comment on your eyesight than on my position.

Keep on pointing to me as one of the evil ones if it makes you feel good, but you're far off the mark.

Ya, what he said.

I'm not promoting or pushing it iether. I believe, if done properly, the gondola could be a great asset but that's about it. I'm most certainly not going to lose any sleep over it.

David, I think I might have found something that would explain it:

Hey Anders!

Nothing new to report. There's been some survey action and the "cut list" has apparently been reduced even further thab previously thought. Breaking ground in March.

Thats all I know.

However, I must tip my hat in your direction. Having dipped my finger a bit in the waters of the Garibaldi Park Heli ski conundrum I'm pretty damn sure I smell a rat.

No proof of course, yet some smelly circumstantial evidence. First was an blatant endorsement of continued heliskiing in an editorial of The Pique by Bob Barnett. Further reporting on the public meeting shows what appears to be a heli ski bias.

The public meeting provided no evidence or credible explanation for the draft recommendation of continued heli skiing. Quite a weak limp wristed effort by BC Parks.

Further enquiries to BC Parks and WHS personnel have met with stoney silence or highly illogical, circular and missleading counterpoints.

I know for a fact that many locals are opposed yet for political reasons (one company town) are chosing to remain silent or at least not publicly vocal. about 70 % of respondents to the BC Parks poll indicated kick them out, yet this is being dissmissed without compelling explanation.

None of the rationale passes the sniff test and the silence is deafening. If one were prone to conspiracy theories you might think that Whistler / Blackcomb has rigged the deal and the emasculated BC Parks is meekly accommodating them for reasons we can only guess at.

So I'm inclined to think your instincts toward the Gondola process may be close to the mark.

That dosn't change my opinion of the value of the Gondola project as I'm still inclined to think its a low risk good value product that most anyone could evaluate just driving by.

But without a valid transparent process no one knows for sure.

So keep digging. If you can find any dirt let me know.

Bruce, it's the end result of governmental cycle. Premier Soccer Mom and company know they have no chance in the upcoming election, they are out of ideas and idealism.

Patronage for the faithful in the form of happily ever after businesses that allow for the sanctimonious "I did all that rat race stuff. Now I have a spiritually fulfilling *Simple Life* tm.

Politics as usual and as usual, it's in our backyard.

Bruce, thanks for posting your concerns. This is a universal situation and really frustrating for those expecting to be involved in land use decisions by following the rules.

I hope all is well up your way. The schnee gods are being bountiful down here in the Baker convergence zone. Maybe a ski some day, eh?

Bruce, great post. Glad to see you looking at the coin from another angle. Gondolas, heli skiing, IPPs, pipelines, all this sh#t has something in common- as citizens it is being done at our expense.

In Ryand's picture one of the signs reads "Adventure by Nature"

Does this mean there will be sushi? Doug? You planning a sushi fest on the patio of the gondola's top stop? I hope so.

David it sez "ADVENTURE" by nature. Not "SUSHI" . Sheesh. Just c'oz yoove mooved to 'Murrica duzzin't mean yo'uve dislearned how to process the written word.

Nature is gonna be in charge of ADVENTURE. Meaning heeze gonna be all tuned into the bike descents, the hikin' in the area, what frogs there are to see, birds 'n' other shzt with feathers'n' fur and stuff like that. He might even know how to catch the koi from the concrete ditch they're gonna build.

You ARE gonna build a concrete ditch full of koi arntchya?

That large Christmas tree ornament is lacking the fixin's that a common big city bus, South of the Sea to Sky has bolted to the front for bikes and skis.

Who's the target and who is the targeted market ?

A bit off the gondola topic, but what the heck...

Time is running out if you wish to comment on the draft plan. They may not listen to you if you comment, but they definitely will ignore you if you don't comment.

I agree with John Baldwin's comments at

They are are worth reading, even if you don't agree with him.
