Sorry, but I am pretty stoked! I taught him to run a flat ski and stay
relaxed but he da man now! Yeah, it ain't the World Cup and all but he
works for a living and leads an exemplary life.

Cool! Congrats!
I'm so old school, back in my heyday (70's) downhiller's were riding super long boards. I had a friend on the Western State College ski team that was 5'7" and riding 215's (for downhill). In fact, the ski team picture in the yearbook showed the womens team topless with a sign strategically placed in front of them that said "Disco and Short Skis Still Suck!"
With all the new fangled skis, what length are downhiller's riding these days?

Downhillers still are riding Pontiacs. My bro is 6-1 and I think he rides
220's. I still have my ancient GS 210's.

Well, that makes some sense. I still have my old Blizzard 207's, but the last time I tried skiing down a double black mogul run (created by the newer shorter skis) with them it was a very jarring experience.
In the terminology of signal analysis, the convolution of the wavelength of my 207's with the wavelength of those moguls was causing what is known as "destructive interference", too true.

Congrats to him!!! A lifetime of devotion to ski racing to earn that!
What a beautiful piece of hardware. Don't recall a better looking medal in all of my racing/coaching (13 years as a race coach)
Flying down a perfectly buffed slope on 220s on a closed course is an experience one never forgets. (Or the butterflys standing in the start gate)

Current FIS criteria mandates about a 46ish turn radius. That's meters. So skis today do not have to be as long to achieve the same and higher speeds. ie torsionally more stiff and faster bases with modern grind technology. We, Rossignol, have 216DH for 49.7m radius, 211DH for 46.3. SG's are 209SG for38.1 and 202 for 36.3 Next year FIS has GS at 33m. Congrats on your bro. My 13 yr old twins qualified for Intermountain Div. Champs. My son 5th in the region and my daughter 7th. We are off to McCall, Id to go ski racing in the rain this weekend.

Standing on the side of a World cup downhill is an impressive, and humbling, experience. Watching on TV does not, at all, do justice to how fast those guys are going or how steep the courses are....... A blink and a Swoooooooosh............ and they are out of site again.........
Any photos of the Masters course your brother won on?

Adventurous, it was at Ski Cooper but I am still awaiting the hero shots.
You are quite right about the lifetime of devotion. He lives like a monk
and trains year-round.
Hey, Jeremy, you could attend Gary's race camp which he holds every November
at Copper and find out how old and slow he is. :-) You might get to meet
some of his homies like Lasse Kjus who stopped by last year I think. In
GS he often places second or third to younger bona fide ex-World Cuppers.
About 15 years ago they held the Nationals at Mammoth. I went up and helped
prepare the downhill course and then got to run it for fun on my 207 GS's.
It was feckin' fast! Maybe not quite Hahnenkamm-fast but you could
do an easy 65-70 if you wanted to.

Bump for Pontiacs.
And kudos to your bro!
My own little brother Tim, showing off his pissant trophy from either Badger Pass or from Dodge Ridge, I'm not sure which place. And another kind of trophy. And his Pontiac--the skis fit in the trunk.

Mouse, HaHaHa! How appropriate, too, as my bro had a TransAm for quite a while!
He got that after he wrecked the Vette. Yeah, goin' fast is a family thang - thanks Uncle Stirling!
