stop saying "sandbag" when talking 'bout ratings.

It's lame-ass.

try using "STOUT" instead.

see the difference?

one is whinning and

one is steppin' up to the challenge

Toss the rating out and send the climb. Either way it gets done and you look awesome.

To downplay or misrepresent one's ability in a game or activity in order to deceive (someone), especially in gambling: sandbagged the pool player by playing poorly in the first game when stakes were low.

I agree with michaeld. The term sandbag is just a rating that isn't a number. You can do it or you can't.

3 letter grades off common hardman perception of a given rating = sandbag

Anything less is arguable subjective experience.

5.6 is supposed to be hard.

Would "teabag" roll off the tongue better?

"Dude, that route was totally teabagged."

I think it makes more sense as a verb:

"Damn Josh ratings - got teabagged again."

How about calling routes "liberal" or "progressive" rather than soft or overprotected.

After all both are about equality of outcome rather than equality of opportunity.

You have no right to start this thread. Obviously you have no idea what a sandbag is. Fuk off and die noobie!

I think "sandbag" is a legitimate descriptive term for when a rating is downwardly exaggerated to such an extreme that it is clearly bullsh#t. Personally, I think the criteria is about 2 or 3 letter grades. So, for example Separate Reality at 11d seems pretty stout, probably more like 12a to onsight but not a true sandbag. But Energy Crisis or Bachar Yerian at 10d are total sandbags. Sandbagging implies an intent to deceive, usually with conscious or thinly veiled malice.
