Read this over lunch, thanks for sharing, for a moment I was there in Wyoming then the bell rang and it was back to class.
Tough story for sure.

Jim is the real deal. Maybe he will tell some more tales.

Recently there was a thread about an accident on Teewinot, and I asked if anyone had crawled through the tunnel near the top from the north face to the SE face to finish the climb. Had a couple of replies. Perhaps Jim did this? I didn't - too nasty looking!

J. Gill - While doing the North side route I crawled through and poked my head out onto the south side. It was like an alternate universe, warm and sunny. I then went back to the cold side and finished the route.
Some years later, after doing the regular East Face I dropped down on the west side of the notch and looked hard for the tunnel's south side entrance. It wasn't easy to locate but finally I found it and crawled through to the north side. Wow, that was really spooky, going into the steep and cold alternate universe.

During my 50s I would occasionally go up and solo the Idol & Worshipper, which made a nice one-day adventure, but I stopped doing that after one of the refrigerator-size boulders glued to the Worshipper shifted under my weight.

I used to go up and solo the very exposed face of the big pinnacle in Hardscrabble Canyon here in S. Colorado until something similar happened. It was quiet and still and as I stepped off the Volkswagon sized slab I saw a small bush tremble at its top, but heard and felt nothing.
Spooky.

Jody, this is great stuff. Thanks for helping w' your dad's history to live on.
Yesterday after reading a couple of threads involving such I contacted my friend Rick Reese, who was a Jenny Lake climbing Ranger in the 60's, involved with the historic North Face rescue, knowing he'd take interest. I'll bet he knew your dad. Hope Jim is still following with interest!!! Love the well preserved photos!
