With due respect Dr: The image is of Mugs, not Jim. I snapped it.

No intent to rip off the thread, merely as a tribute to the elders of the tribe. Mugs had great respect for Tom and Jack. That is my connection. Maybe one day I'll meet Tom.

Tom Bauman (and brother Bob as well) are definatly legends in these parts. Wish I'd tied in with either but never have. Sorry, no pics. Chuck Pratt would tie in with Tom when he went to the valley.

Good thread, like to see more....bump!

Hey mt19010,

So you think John Bauman could be a misprint and that it was Tom? I'll have to check with him on that one.

Cheers

For sure! Just Tom and his brother Bob as far as I know.

Bauman/Baumann is a fairly common German family name, FWIW.

Here's a shot of Tom and Gary at our camp up in the Menagerie, Fall of 2010. Always nice to hang out with him.

Since I have known Tom for almost 50 years, when he and Bob showed up for a Obsidian climbing school I was teaching, and I am in the two pictures of Tom, I will share a story or two - It was apparent right away that they were natural climbers - So I decided to just take them climbing, and have a good time - They were the best climbing tools I ever had, as over the years they have gotten me up many mountains and some first ascents - One of the reasons that Tom is not well known, is that he never toots his own horn - He loves climbing and is not in for money or fame - I have decided not to tell stories here, as they are best told around a camp fire, with good beer, and good friends.

Tom is my cousin and I appreciate him very much, including the fact that he wants no recognition for his accomplishments whatsoever. He jokes about the stuff about him on the interweb.
