"We just need a second Regan."

Hahahaha, Reagan would get tea bagged out of the primaries now. That's the last thing you need.

Moving to Iran or Somalia is your best bet for the kind of government you want. The repub party is all but exterminated.

Warren, Sanders Ready to Face Down Obama over Social Security, Medicare Cuts

As budget negotiations restart, Obama, GOP still pushing austerity

Instead of talking about cuts in Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, we must end the absurdity of corporations not paying a nickel in federal income taxes.

k-man you have it all wrong. When poor people don't pay income taxes because they're poor they are freeloading "takers." When corporations turn profits and pay no income taxes it is a success of free market capitalism.

Another "Regan"? I assume you meant Reagan. WTF? Are you crazy? Never mind that was a rhetorical question. Ronald Reagan = patient zero for the disease that assails US now. The worst president in American history and a true disaster. And you Tea GT would want to reinfect the body politic with more Neo-Cons. Intellectually you are as usefull as tits on a boar.

We'd be better off with another Nixon. Watergate was a lapse in judgement... a colossal lapse with historic consequences. But if you remove that whole drama from his Presidency, Nixon's contribution was exceptional.

The following brought to you by your POTUS...obviously such a wise and wonderful leader...of sheep.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, 'the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."

we must end the absurdity of corporations not paying a nickel in federal income taxes.

That statement has its own absurdity. Corporations "pay" income taxes in the same way real estate "pays" property taxes. All tax incidence ultimately falls on individuals. Perhaps Bernie can tell us which individuals pay corporate income tax, because we've known for over 50 years that econometricians cannot. See, e.g., A. Zellner, "The Corporate Income Tax In The Long Run: A Comment," Journal of Political Economy, Vol. 66, No. 5 (Oct. 1958) (Impossible to tell whether corporate income tax is passed on to consumers or employees, or whether shareholders pay).

As an intellectual exercise, please tell me how much of the corporate income tax of Chevron, say, is paid by its shareholders, its employees, its customers, and/or anyone else, and what method you used to make that determination.

Those who spend their lives to spend our money prefer indirect taxes, such as corporate income tax and value added taxes, because no one knows how much of those taxes they really pay. In contrast, people pay sales tax and income tax directly. I personally think that the crusade to make corporations pay more tax would ultimately shift the tax burden to those with lower incomes, because if every business producing consumer goods organizes as a corporation, the corporate income tax will work itself into the rate of return on investment capital in those businesses, in the same way that property tax works its way into the rate of return on commercial real estate. For those not following, those taxes work their way into the rate of return through increased prices.

That tired old Republican argument is ridiculous. Corporations are people, remember--see Citizens United v. Federal Elections Commission. Unlike a piece of property, corporate entities (except S Corps and other pass through tax entities) are SUPPOSED to pay income taxes. The idea that consumers somehow benefit (as opposed to the shareholders) by completely avoiding payment of federal income tax is completely absurd.

Haha what kind of corporatist fantasy dreamworld are you living in? If corporations weren't a legal form of personhood you might have a point but there is literally no basis in reality for this statement. This would be like me engineering myself to 0 income taxes with the help of an accountant and then proclaiming that I pay PLENTY of taxes because my gardener, driver and the pilot of my private jet all pay taxes. The mere existence of a corporate income tax nullifies this delusional line of thinking. And real estate doesn't "pay" property tax the owner of the property does whether that be a corporation or a real person. The CEO of Citibank doesn't owe all of Citibank's property taxes, CITIBANK does. When Citibank doesn't pay them they don't go after the CEO's personal assets to try to recover them...that kind of protection is the whole point of incorporation.

an irs employee can ILLEGALLY share your tax information with whomever, but, according to the same law that makes his action illegal, his own identity is considered CONFIDENTIAL, meaning he cannot be prosecuted because a trial would reveal his identity

This is just a liberal talking point.

Very few large corporations avoid paying taxes on their profits. Look at the S&P 500 companies, showing a profit and no carry-forward losses. Most pay taxes.

There are loopholes that help corporations reduce their tax obligations (like accelerated depreciation), but by and large corporations pay taxes on their profits.

That said, I strongly believe we should overhaul corporate welfare in this country.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2013/10/30/biden_apologizes_for_obamacare_we_were_under_the_impression_it_was_ready_to_go.html

let's, for the sake of argument, accept joe's claim as true: they (he and barry) were told everything was fine; in other words, they were lied to

why are the same people who lied still working for them? is their incompetence that overwhelming? depending on the same people who screwed up the system to now fix the system? isn't that the definition of insanity?
