I'm curious why you think this is ok. For one, not all countries corporate tax rates are the same (this is the incentive to put those profits offshore in the first place), so they are not in FACT "paying the same amount/rate, even if another government gets part of it".

They pay the remainder to the IRS. So, their total tax expense is the same. I'm not sure of what you think is FACT.

http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/International-Taxpayers/Foreign-Tax-Credit

Also, why are you ok with another countries government (not people, politicians and bureaucrats) profiting off of everyday Americans hard work? Do you think other companies will bring their headquarters over here so we can regain our lost tax income, or do you think it will create more of a race to the bottom (which is already happening, thanks GOP) in terms of incentivizing every country to lower their corporate tax rate in a desperate attempt to keep any economy in their country?

How is work done overseas "profiting off of everyday Americans hard work?" That makes no sense.

That's quite an either/or question, Jammer. It's a complicated issue. We live in a global economy. Back when NAFTA was signed, I opposed it, even though every living President ( except alzheimer Reagan) endorsed it. That genie was let out 20 years ago. We really can't put it back in the bottle.

The alternative would be actually enforcing a corporate tax code, implementing higher tariffs on imports, and generally telling the 1%ers of the world to go f*#k themselves. America, with it's hard-working and productive people, would be just fine. We need to tell the bankers to take their social program, or whatever it is, elsewhere.

So... what you're saying is we should adopt a strict protectionist policy. How do you think US based corporations will react?

Republicans aren't just wrong about everything, they're batshit crazy!
A Republican candidate who finished fifth in the June primary race for governor of California was arrested Friday as a suspect in a Fresno County shooting that left one man wounded and a horse dead, officials said.

Fresno County Sheriff’s Department Lt. John Golden said that Tye "Glenn" Champ was arrested without incident in neighboring Tulare County a day after the shooting occured at 4:17 p.m. Thursday on Lynx Lane near Prather.

A Sheriff’s Department statement said it appears the shooting resulted from a dispute between neighbors over improvements being made to a private road. The victim was taken to Community Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the stomach.

"According to witness statements, Mr. Champ confronted the 40-year-old adult victim and his juvenile son and then shot the adult with a small black pistol," the Sheriff's Department statement says. "As the victim and son fled, Mr. Champ allegedly fired multiple additional shots, striking and killing a horse."

Champ, 48, fled the area in an older blue four-door Volkswagen sedan and was believed to still be armed. Golden said that a citizen called with a tip that Champ owned a truck that was parked at an address in Tulare County. Tulare County deputies arrested Champ, who was unarmed, during a vehicle stop without incident. He faces possible charges of attempted murder, felony child endangerment and felony animal cruelty.

For one sketch, from your link, third paragraph down:

Taken as a credit, foreign income taxes reduce your U.S. tax liability. In most cases, it is to your advantage to take foreign income taxes as a tax credit.

So, how do corporations end up paying the same taxes regardless? Why again do they bother to waste all their time and pay their accountants to move money like that around? I know, it's apparently complex...

Also, when corporations pay taxes in foreign countries, they pay those taxes to the countries government. Only by the proven-to-be-invalid trickle-down-economic theory do you have any kind of argument that that money goes anywhere besides the government, so try and provide an argument there or just shut up. The American tax system is then required to make up the difference out of everyday Americans pockets, so they end up paying more than their fair share of taxes (and providing idiotic republicans and their values duped voters with issues to campaign and get re-relected on, so they can give more money away to foreign governments, providing a yet stronger reason to be re-elected by their values-duped voters...), and the person who gets the money at the end of a long food chain is a foreign government.

As for where the corporations would go, do I care? Would the workers leave? Would the plant up and take off? Would the people buying stuff suddenly disappear? In short, how, exactly, would a corporation leaving preclude that those services would not be met by someone currently unenfranchised in our current system? Do the corporations own the labor? Do they have exclusive rights to the land? Is it the corporation, and not the people who work for the corporation, which comes up with all the ideas? I would gladly tell them to just f*#k off...

why don't you rail against the tens of billions of dollars in tax credit given to the oil companies every single year, to help them get "started"?

http://www.americanprogress.org/issues/tax-reform/news/2011/05/05/9663/big-oils-misbegotten-tax-gusher/

From 2011:

At a time when gas prices exceed $4 a gallon, these profits are coming out of ordinary people’s pockets, and not just at the pump. American families are also padding the oil companies’ enormous profits with their tax dollars. In effect, U.S. taxpayers wrote a collective $7 billion bonus check to the oil industry when they filed their taxes last month.

The correct number appears to be about $7 billion/year. An apallingly huge number for an absurdly profitable business that we should be encouraging the transition away from, not the dependence upon. I'm curious what our "I'm not a republican" friends think about it.

Maybe it's because it cost much less to manufacture in China than Detroit.

I have no idea where you were going with that.

It's not about workers leaving. It's about jobs leaving and all the economic benefits associated with them.

Does anyone see Wal-Mart as too greedy to sustain?

Like a cancer.... I feel we should get rid of it. Or, we should allow the wal-mart virus to die, no more public subsidy due to walmart not paying a living wage... And now they want to not pay the workers from china too.... Wal mart will be too big to what next?

Republicans look at this as a great american story because its american, there are whites involved.... american republicans are ok with that....

Does anyone else see dealing with the republican party in Congress as completely ineffectual. I see it as similar to watching a child starting to perform your brain surgery - They both have no idea what they are doing, they both do not understand that there are consequences of their action/lack of action taken in this arena, and fail to recognize that a change is needed.

To be honest, if China is ignorant enough to allow anything from walmart to touch its shores will ultimately doom the country or the company... It's completely up to them.
Maybe republicans can elect walmart to the presidency some day...?

This is completely wrong. The problem is that you think "what they are doing" is governing the country when in fact "what they are doing" is preventing anyone from governing while trying to get reelected. They are doing a pretty good job at it.

I'm getting confused....

My pastor is a conservative christian... He says that he cares about people... but then he says this

Then I realized....

My pastor is a f*#king socialist!!!! We must get rid of my non-american values pastor!!!

P.S.

We all agree that this is not the function of government.... thus, pointing out how ineffectual the republicans are and why... Is a bad thing?

I didn't expect a different response.

It's pretty obvious you prefer confrontation over an exchange of ideas.

Your last few posts ooze an ignorant irrational mindset.

Jammer,

That theme was covered to the point of ad nauseum by the Existentialists.

But still, "I know you are,but what am I" is one of the great foundations of philosophy.
