I heard this today....

If I'm a registered conceal carry, and going about my life drinking coffee and having a slice cherry pie at the local diner with my family

and a red neck comes into the diner with a open carry assault weapon over his should (legal in some states)

As far as I'm concerned he is a threat to my safety, he could be a terrorist, or about to rob the place.

I'm terrified for the safety of my family and the others at the diner.....
this guy is about ready to shoot up the place....

So what should I do: Of course I have to SHOOT Him!!
before he shoots me and my family

and when the cops ask why, I say "I was standing my ground"..
I had to protect my family

and some will say, thank you for your service in killing that possible "terrorist"
since you can never be to sure when it come to threats from others with an open carry weapon.

Of course, there is a subtext to the Cantor loss: He's Jewish.

What effectively has happened is that they've taken a very powerful position, and turned it into a very weak one, due to seniority.

Also, the lesson to any Repub with ANY tendency to moderation on ANY issue is, Do it at your peril. Vote no on everything. "just say no".

Virginia will be Blue by Nov.

Cantor barely squeaked by 6 years ago against the Democratic challenger, and will be running again
So it will be an easy win this fall when he faces the radical right wing Tea Bagger.

come on Craig, you know better than that

I have a Concealed Carry License and have been carrying all the time for five years now.

I have no special right to shoot someone unless I make the very difficult decision that either myself or someone close to me is in grave danger of losing their life.

Even then, I could face a huge civil lawsuit wiping me out brought by the family of a person I might kill in self defense.

You know the law as well as anyone else, there is no such thing as shooting someone who just happens to be legally carrying a weapon openly. for no other good reason.

IT'S a Thought experiment!!

What will a Court Decide?
That is the question.

what about a court that the NRA owned?
what about a court that hated the open carry red neck and thought he was a threat?
what if ron Anderson was the judge of the court?

It's a New ramification of the conflicting weapon laws we have.

The Point is...
That if you are legal open carry, and go out on the street with your legal AR-15 thinking it will keep you safe, or so you think!

The truth is, you are now the Target of anyone that may be terrorized by you, which would be the majority of Americans

I would feel terrorized if I saw a guy with an AR-15 at the local diner, but I would just leave, since I'm a pussy.

The Tea Party will be in trouble by Nov.

What do they have going for them, it's just a race to out right wing each other

+40 means +40% so you're still 30% shy. I'm starting to think you're Ron's weird liberal alterego.

Yeah Dr. F. I checked the 2012 Cantor election too, in actual votes:

General Election[hide]U.S. House, Virginia District 7 General Election, 2012
Party Candidate Vote % Votes
Democratic E. Wayne Powell 41.4% 158,012
Republican Eric Cantor Incumbent 58.4% 222,983
Write-In N/A 0.2% 914
Total Votes 381,909

Sorry, but this district belongs to the right-wing nuts in 2014.

Dr. F, that was a presidential election year. Cantor won the district 59% - 34% in 2010.

Oh god. There's a very real possibility that Cooter from the Dukes of Hazard got Democrats to vote in the primary and oust Cantor. Primary voter participation increased by nearly 50%.

Cantor's loss is indicative of why we have congressional gridlock. For the last 30 years, districts have been getting redrawn to heavily favor the party drawing the lines. Now, we have inkblot districts, instead reasonably drawn districts. So, the November election is irrelevant for the strong red (or blue) districts. It's about winning the primaries. And the extreme ideologues are beating the moderates. I don't consider Cantor to be a moderate. But he lost to a more rightwing nobody. That's scary.

People are citing Cantor's slightly not batshit crazy views on immigration as the major reason he went down and yet the vast majority of people in his district support it. Republican primary voters != Republican general election voters != general election voters at large.
