Yes, i would shoot the plane down if it meant saving more than not. But the use of drones HERE is NOT about that, but rather the spying on citizens. Those that differ in opinion from the Potus. Those that outwardly show or speak of disastisfaction with the gubbmint. All things weve cherished since conception of this great country.

In this area, we already suffer from arial surviellance by DHS black hawk helos. Go climbing at a local crag and your likely to get buzzed and circled by one of those, with a gunner at the doors. All over cartel activities here. We KNOW who those members are yet CAN DO NOTHING until after the fact. They are PROTECTED by policies put out by the obama admin as they await amnesties. So instead of sovling a problem the very easiest way, in the name of being PC, we shall make ALL citizens pay by increased surviellance? BULLSHEET....

Our constitutional rights are often suspended in times of war or national crisis. i.e. internment camps of world war 2 under Roosevelt. Do domestic "belligerents" constitute a national crisis on the same level as an illegal (assumed terrorist) in a jetliners cockpit? Weren't right wing extremists (the bitter clingers) and returning war veterans identified as domestic threats early on in the Obama administration? Inquiring minds want to know.

Way to go!

We picked off another son on a b!tch

WASHINGTON — A senior congressman says U.S. officials have captured Osama bin Laden's spokesman in Jordan.

Ghaith was bin Laden's son-in-law and was part of the Sept. 11, 2001, plot against the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

nothing "political" about this, just damn good unrelenting pressure and intelligence

great job everyone!

"...haven't we used unmanned drone strikes on American soil for as long as the United States existed? We just called them "bullets."

Exactly correct, good work JE.

I watch Zero Dark Thirty over and over again, fantastic movie, great to watch the hell's swooping down on Bin Laden's compound - a scenario no doubt to be repeated in this country once we start dealing with the gun nuts.

Also good to watch for the torture scenes, which pretty much spell out how ineffective the water boarding actually was. The CIA broke the case once the detainee program was taken away, and they were forced to rely on deductive reasoning, not brute force. Had they done that sooner, Bin Laden would have been found sooner. Of course the Bush admin had no real interest in finding him anyway, which didn't help either...

So, you are saying that if a terrorist group hypothetically captured a civilian airliner filled with Americans, and was about to fly it into, say, the World Trade Center, you would not shoot it down (with drones or anything else), but allow it to fly into the building and kill thousands?

You'd demand that every American on that plane be given a trial?

Dick Cheney DID give such an order on 9/11. Was that a criminal act? A war crime?

Ken, if a policeman shoots a civilian to protect his life or the life of others, that's one thing. Summary execution of US citizens is another thing, whether they are here or on foreign soil. No good can come from giving the president authority to execute citizens at will.

Letting Bin Laden go - Just another low point for The Worst President In US History

Our wingnuts must be sooo proud to have voted TWICE for the unmitigated disaster that was the Bush admin

Of course, every cloud has a silver lining - we got ObamaCare because of Bush, and the accelerated demise of the repub party to boot

Yes they were
They were identified as domestic terrorists by the NSA, as they should be

just like they were during the Bush Admin

The act of identifying threats implies identification of that which threatens an agenda. They came into office playing a hypnotic tune much like the pied piper. I ask where are they trying to lead the hypnotized? What our dear leader has stated as his intentions has often diverged radically from his actions-why? Inquiring minds want to know rather than simply marching lockstep in tune with propoganda.
And Dr. F he isn't a moron any more than you are Dr. Fallacy.

No dear Dr. i don't. I only know what you purport to represent by your words, ideas, responses on the latest installments of this thread. I do know one thing though-you resort to rather childish derision of those that don't march in lockstep with your ideas as exhibited by your last post.

Even Mccain Thinks Rand Paul Is Ridiculous

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/03/08/us/politics/mccain-and-graham-assail-paul-filibuster-over-drones.html

WASHINGTON — Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham on Thursday assailed Senator Rand Paul’s filibuster of an Obama administration nominee over drone policy a day earlier, suggesting an emerging split in the Republican Party over antiterrorism tactics.

Mr. McCain, who was a prisoner of war in Vietnam, noted that Mr. Paul had raised the idea that the antiwar activist Jane Fonda could have been singled out for a strike during her criticism of that war. He said that claim was unfounded and that the filibuster, which received the backing of members of the Senate Republican leadership, sent a message that was a “disservice to Americans.”

“To allege that the United States, our government, would drop a drone Hellfire missile on Jane Fonda, that brings the conversation from a serious discussion about U.S. policy into the realm of the ridiculous,” Mr. McCain said.

Mr. Graham said he did not remember Republican critics attacking President George W. Bush for employing drone strikes, and he said the question for Republicans was, “What are we up to here?”

Mr. McCain and Mr. Graham did not share the leadership’s enthusiasm for the filibuster, which took on an antiterrorism approach that Republicans have strongly supported in the past.

Basically, Rand Paul is trying to start a 3rd party. Good luck to him!
