http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/jarrett-if-theres-one-thing-we-should-all-agree-its-protecting-women-violence_697566.html

tell me, why do women need a special law protecting them from violence when women are equally qualified to fight in frontline combat?

oh, the irony...

So RunPull's little shithead son, the self-certified optometrist "Rand", decided to grandstand about security at Benghazi.

That would be the same shithead who supported a budget with a 40% cut to the State Department.

And the media reports his ridiculous posturing as if it were "news". The only "news" here is that EXTRA, EXTRA, GOP continues to be hypocrites and completely full of sh#t.

The Secretary of State had grown greatly in my esteem until yesterday. When she purported to take responsibility, then proceeded to deflect it to others, that sounded rather like cowardly double-talk. I never want to work for a boss like that.

Her "What difference does it make now?" rant was a transparent evasion. I could only imagine what would have happened if anyone in the Bush administration answered that way about the absence of WMD in Iraq, yet the only thing we saw on the major networks and major internet sites was Hilary's rant, with no response or commentary. I guess the government giving us knowing misinformation only matters if a Republican administration does it.

For shame.

John-

I'm sorry but I have to take serious issue. The Madam Secretary has endured an onslaught of absurd attacks on this issue varying from "oh god cover up" to "she faked her illness to avoid testifying." The hostility with which she was addressed at that hearing was impressive and the pettiness with which many Republicans have decided to address this issue is irresponsible. The Secretary's reaction was one of frustration to that callow political maneuvering and the lack of seriousness with which many politicians have taken.

A synopsis of the exchange:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/dana-milbank-in-benghazi-hearings-hillary-clinton-storms-capitol-hill/2013/01/23/a27e571e-65ac-11e2-85f5-a8a9228e55e7_story.html?tid=pm_pop

She began her appearance before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee with restraint, and even remorse. She choked up as she described receiving flag-draped caskets at Andrews Air Force Base and hugging relatives of those killed.

But her anger boiled over when rookie Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) demanded to know why she and her aides didn’t immediately call those evacuated from Benghazi to find out whether a protest had preceded the attack. Clinton replied that she didn’t want to interfere with the FBI’s investigation — which is almost certainly what Republicans would have accused her of doing.

“That’s a good excuse,” Johnson said, scornfully.

“Well, no, it’s a fact,” Clinton retorted, growing irritated. Waving her index finger, she pointed out that much of what happened in Libya on Sept. 11 remains unknown.

“No, no, no, no,” Johnson rejoined. “We were misled that there were supposedly protests and then something sprang out of that, an assault . . . and the American people could have known that within days.”

Clinton raised her voice. “With all due respect, the fact is we had four dead Americans,” she shouted at the lawmaker. Waving her arms and then pounding the witness table with her fist, she continued: “Was it because of a protest, or was it because of guys out for a walk one night who decided they’d go kill some Americans? What difference, at this point, does it make?”

Johnson stopped interrupting as Clinton continued. “It is, from my perspective, less important today looking backward as to why these militants decided they did it than to find them and bring them to justice,” she said.

Johnson didn’t attempt a rebuttal. “Okay, thank you, Madam Secretary.”

HDDJ,

I agree that her appearance yesterday differed very little from most congressional appearances of administration officials over the last 80 years, at least. The Senators (or Representatives, when the witness/sacrificial victim appears before the House), grandstand, verbally abuse, and don't care about what the "witness" says. The fact remains, though, that the initial misinformation relating to the attack troubles a great many people, and her outburst distracted from her seemingly intentional failure to explain it. That, and the absolute lack of follow up on the issue, disappoints me.

Actually, Norton, they also had a bellyful of the King of England giving orders to the Church. I find it ironic that modern Protestantism seems to be longing for the bad old days of established religion, when historically, Protestants were the victims of established religion.
