Mike Huckabee: Newtown Shooting No Surprise, We've 'Systematically Removed God' From Schools

Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee (R) weighed in on the massacre at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn. on Friday, saying the crime was no surprise because we have "systematically removed God" from public schools.

"We ask why there is violence in our schools, but we have systematically removed God from our schools," Huckabee said on Fox News. "Should we be so surprised that schools would become a place of carnage?"

This line of reasoning isn't new for Huckabee.

Speaking about a mass shooting in Aurora, Colo. over the summer, the former GOP presidential candidate claimed that such violent episodes were a function of a nation suffering from the removal of religion from the public sphere.

"We don't have a crime problem, a gun problem or even a violence problem. What we have is a sin problem," Huckabee said on Fox News. "And since we've ordered god out of our schools, and communities, the military and public conversations, you know we really shouldn't act so surprised ... when all hell breaks loose."

The G.O.P.’s Existential Crisis
By PAUL KRUGMAN

It’s important to make this point, because I keep seeing articles about the “fiscal cliff” that do, in fact, describe it — often in the headline — as a debt crisis. But it isn’t. The U.S. government is having no trouble borrowing to cover its deficit. In fact, its borrowing costs are near historic lows. And even the confrontation over the debt ceiling that looms a few months from now if we do somehow manage to avoid going over the fiscal cliff isn’t really about debt.

I don't know about the Republicans, but if politicians in general keep following Krugman's advice, our Country will have an existential crisis. You give these morons Nobel Prizes and they think they can outsmart the laws of Economics. Countless fools have thought this before, with disastrous (and sadly predictable) results.

Having the World's reserve currency is not a Free lunch. It buys us time to get our house in order, that's all. Unfortunately we have shown absolutely no will whatsoever to do this, as we have allowed Obama to dramatically expand the welfare state and the public sector. As Krugman notes, borrowing money has never been cheaper. But any dollar borrowed by Government is a dollar that cannot be borrowed by the private sector- there is a nearly perfect negative correlation between private and public sector borrowing. And every dollar that goes to Government instead of the more productive private sector destroys wealth.

Ever the apologist of Obama, Krugman wants us to believe that this recovery is slow due to the nature of the crisis that caused it. Horse$hit. This recovery is slow because of the nature of the solutions implemented. Reagan and Clinton embraced the private sector during the recessions under their watch. Obama embraced government, creating new entitlements and programs and permanently increasing spending. Now we are in the "New Normal" of 1-2% GDP growth.

But it doesn't have to be that way.

Or rather, because they were never implemented in the first place. They apparently are about to be, though.

Nohea, do you acknowledge that there were good reasons for unions coming into being? If you do, then what forces do you think have made them unnecessary today?

Eisenhower warned about the military industrial complex. I think the same warning is true in a sense for unions.

Just because there are dangers of having a military doesn't mean you get rid of it. There are still benefits to be gained from having one. I believe the same is true of unions. There are still good reasons to have them, but they can be dangerous and stifle many good things.

I wonder how long it would take for wages to go down and hours to go up if there were no unions. Especially as corporations gain more and more power.

Unions have been useful historically in guaranteeing people are paid fair wages and insuring reasonable working conditions. Where they have gone astray is in trying to guarantee significantly higher than market wages and benefits, which has driven many of the industries that unions attached themselves to out of the Country to find cheaper labor. This is greed, pure and simple.

There are many sectors of the economy that have never had unions, technology is a good example. Sure, there are some companies that force their employees to program 16 hours a day and eat stale pizza. But these companies do not exist in a vacuum. There is plenty of competition between companies, and most offer generous benefits and pay along with an average 40 hour workweek.

Rubbish, a zombie lie that won't die.

Perhaps under a healthy economy, but certainly not under recession conditions. Even Friedman (Milton, not the "suck on this" dunderhead that still, astonishingly, gets column space in the NYT) would agree that there is little or no crowding out effect when there are employment and capacity gaps like we have now.

Which they would not have if it weren't for the Unions who fought for those worker's rights and conditions.

Unions didn't drive Corporations to raid pension funds and off shore production.

It was negative before Obama took office. In fact, it was negative all the way back to George W.

Washington, that is. We have never had GDP growth until Obama walked down from the mountain and handed out freshly printed money to the poor, starving masses of this historically poor and backward capitalist backwater.

Unions (and their Democrat friends) raided the entire State of California. In a few years many cities will have no money to pay for current services, all of it will go to pensions.

Unfortunately, I live in Obama's "Forwards" land.

Forward on entitlements
Forward on welfare
Forward on government bloat and waste, with nothing ever being cut, only increased.
Forward to bankruptcy!

Hours After Connecticut Kindergarten Shooting, Michigan GOP Calls For Allowing Guns In Schools
By Zack Beauchamp on Dec 14, 2012 at 4:36 pm
Hours after the terrible shooting in a Newtown, Connecticut elementary school, the Michigan House Republicans issued demanded that Governor Rick Snyder (R) sign a bill that would make it easier for people to receive a gun permit and open up “gun free zones,” including schools. A statement attributed to Press Secretary Ari B. Adler shrugged off any link between guns in schools and school shootings:

Obama Derangement Syndrome
When a person stops disagreeing with Obama on political policy and believe every single policy decision that he make is apart sinister conspiracy to weaken or destroy America and possibly the world.
"Obama will confiscate guns, bring the Muslim brotherhood to power in America, Take all his orders from Putin, declare war on Israel, become a permanent dictator, maybe even become the anti Christ and set up a one world government...But I just disagree with the guy.
