DIrt, i posted some stats,, a DR in Nevada can pay as much as he makes in MAL P insurance as noted. THAT cost directly put back into FEES,, like a 16.00 asprin.

Making 180K a year, then paying 100K for JUST mal practice insurance let alone EMPLOYEE insurance is going to do what to combat that?

A)RAISE PRICES
B)take no medicare.medicaid patients.

C) Cut employee insurance

D) Cut employees

E) like many in NV, they will CLOSE their entire practice to go to work for one of the MAJOR medical groups and not have the hassles. For every action, there is a REACTION.. And we "have to wait to see whats in it" in total reaction eh..

That's bad Ron, but what does it mean in the big picture?

You keep saying tort suits are the main cause of health care costs increasing.

OK, how much?

"try to find a doctor willing to accept ur covered Obama care!?!"...

Don't know about other States but here in Colorado we have the choice to pick any provider we want...

From Blue Cross/Blue Sheild, to any and every HMO...

So it is only a matter of locating a Physician that takes the coverage one picks...

No different than before when fully insured with any and all companies (I could get a PPO if I wanted, but chose not to)...

EDITED:

I am confused as to why you think it is a bad thing???...

???...

Do you like how the insurance companies have ripped people off for years and years and years???...

How they would TAKE your money then CANCEL your sorry ass at their discretion???...

Fuk them and their greedy ass ways!!!...

Ron...Mc Whackos found it is cheaper to pay those coffee- burn law suits than to lower the temperature of their coffee and lose coffee sales...If i recall correctly , one of those coffee burned customers had to have skin grafts but why let facts get in the way of another PR stunt to make corporate America look like the victim...?

Dirt,,research the cost of DRs insurance in say 1930 and compare to today. Im sure it will be a "zoiks"...

How does one put a value n a life or a limb really.? My family members and friends to me are worth more money than has ever been printed in the world.

Do i think some compensation is due sometimes? Yes,, but what is FAIR.

I once considered suing the state over my shoulder and i had a SOLID case.
The amount i thought of was some 600+ as thats what i WOULD have made the rest of my career there. I didnt think,, oooooo i should stick them for five million. Water under the bridge as i didnt want to sue anyhow. But for far too many others, ridiculous sums have been given over mistakes that human nor machine will ever eliminate 100%.

edit: RJ,, there is this thing called Darwinism...;^)

EDITED:

Count down to "It costs us more now" crybabies...

Ron..I know several people who had legitimate cases like yours and got screwed by workers comp and the companies they worked for so the million dollar lawsuits are the exception and not the rule...

If you a DR,, seems it can be up to 80% of your income.

And Locker i see you celebrating you win over insurance companies and good for you,, BUT remember, millions of others have been slapped with insurance fees they cant even afford. MANY will pay through the nose.

And DID you claim "smoker" on your insurance? Ill bet KNOTT.!!!! It would cost me about 1800.00 a month if i were making a "decent living" for my "aca" being honest about smoking.

edit: Whats the diff between a road killed snake and a road killed lawyer?

2%.

How do I know this? Because my buddy says 37 insurance agents in Carson Valley got blown.

I'm going to assume that Ron does not have anything to show that tort suits are a significant portion of medical costs. I.e., greater than 2% of costs, which while significant, is not a very large portion of total costs.

tossing the word COSTS around isnt addressing TORT reform nor the EXPENSE it created for Doctors. Playing semantics is all.

Take the pharmaceutical industry that now DOENST go forward with projects due to OVER ALL COST.

So where do YOU GET 2% Dirt. It ISNT from the doctor that pays half or more of their intake in mal practice alone.

within the last 8 months 4 doctors have closed their practice around here and now work for one of the two major players. Adding to the unemployment roles as they do by letting go employees. That trickles down to delivery and suppliers etc etc. Just another "industry" being WALMARTED is what i see in the future.

In 2009, one of the highest rates of insurance in Nevada is for OB/GYNs, who may pay between $85,000 for malpractice liability insurance per year up to $142,000 per year for a premium plan by a prominent insurance company. Although the average annual salary for such doctors was around $180,000 in 2009, malpractice insurance can still be a huge financial burden.

so make 180K and pay 142K in mal practice alone. Then throw on a FLOOD of medicaid and medicare patients, its no wonder many doctors are folding up shop.

Ron, beside the link Norton provided:
From 2010, malpractice costs 2.4%
http://health.usnews.com/health-news/managing-your-healthcare/healthcare/articles/2010/09/07/cost-of-medical-malpractice-tops-55-billion-a-year-in-us

"Our study demonstrates that both these simplifications are wrong -- the amount of defensive medicine is not trivial, but it's unlikely to be a source of significant savings," Chandra said.

And frankly I found tons of other sources that conclude basically the same thing.

Ron, your "evidence" is piecemeal.
