You know NWO2 you are really borish and your commentary hackneyed in extreme.
All of what you sputtle on about has been known to the adults for several decades.
You are like Limbaugh all complaint and no substantive alternatives.

Yes philo, I do come on a little strong. But only because what "has been known to the adults for several decades" is not known to the vast majority of the population.

And what of you? Are you ok with the same standards that apply to people in communist countries like China or North Korea, being applied to us/U.S.?

Are you ok with being implanted with RFIDs? You do know those units send and receive, don't you? And pulllllease, don't deny that we will all be chipped.

Alternatives?

How about ending the Fed, which really isn't Federal at all, but made up of off-shore banksters.

How about ending the militarization of police?

How about putting an end to GMO food, or at least labeling it so we can decide?

How about putting an end to adding fluoride to drinking water? You do know fluoride is a component of Prozac, don't you? Will you be ok with it, when they start adding lithium?

How about putting and end to corporate influence on government?

How about Ron Paul type folks who want to end our involvement in affairs that we have no right to be in, like the Middle East?

Yeah, there are alternatives, but they likely won't be accepted, because most folks love living in a nanny state, are too caught up staring at their iPhones, checking in on Facebook, or watching NASCAR.

The sheeple, are asleeple.

"Bookworm, even my Orange County Republican, cave man conservative friend is starting to like Obamacare. His son had brain surgery and he's getting a eyeful on how the present system works. He's starting to believe that maybe healthcare should not be a corporate profit center."

i had brain surgery, too...total cost: $58,000

i paid $200 out-of-pocket for an extra mri ordered by may brain surgeon, who, by the way, was one of the highest rated specialists in the dc area...i also got a private room

the system worked just fine

if nothing else, you should be suspicious that DEMOCRATS who passed the bill are now trying to ensure for themselves an exemption from the law

remember when repubs tried to amend the bill to force members of congress to give up their health care and join a government approved plan? i'm sure you don't remember it because the democrats voted against it

Basically this is a huge scandal in the field of economics - Harvard economists are basically being accused not just of error, but actual fraud, in presenting an argument for austerity that was found to have multiple errors that all pointed towards the same direction

Pretty amazing (and damning) stuff...once again, we see the extent to which conservatives will go to deny reality, even at the highest levels of economic research

I found it disappointing, but not surprising, that Krugman provided neither data nor any of his own scholarship in support of his contention that high public debt doesn't inhibit growth. At least he was more circumspect about the effect of Herndon's study. There's a big difference between "discrediting" a study and an accusation of actual fraud, which neither Krugman nor any other published paper (or the two articles you cite) make.

"Scandal?" Hardly. Data errors and data selection issues are always an issue in econometric studies, which is why economists, such as Reinhart and Rogoff, provide their data to anyone who requests it -- unlike certain researchers in other fields.

My favorite data selection controversy was in Joe Bain's "Concentration/Profits" hypothesis, probably because it pit my undergraduate institution (Berkeley) against my grad school (UCLA). Bain (Berkeley) argued that the more concentrated an industry, the higher the profits. His original paper showed a statistically significant relationship between concentration, measured by the share of the market of the top four firms, and profits. He argued that profits were a surrogate for monopolistic behavior. This forms the intellectual basis for antitrust policy focusing on reducing concentration, and treating oligopolies as undesirable. It even led to truly silly theories such as the FTC's oxymoronic doctrine of "Shared Monopoly," popular there during the Carter administration.

Harold Demsetz (UCLA) demonstrated that Bain excluded all concentrated industries that did not demonstrate higher profits, and argued that the bases Bain gave for their exclusion amounted to an admission that his hypothesis simply didn't hold there. Bain fired back another paper, "The Concentration/Profits Hypothesis -- Reconfirmed" where he argued that the industries he excluded had intellectually defensible differences from industries generally. Demsetz responded with a paper demonstrating that the profits allegedly attributable to market power were correlated to economies of scale, not concentration. By then, Bain was past his prime, so others have since taken up the challenges.

I fully expect Reinhart and Rogoff to publish peer-reviewed studies demonstrating how, if at all, their conclusions are affected by Herndon's criticism.

Note that health insurance premiums doubled under Bush

100% in 8 years under Bush vs.15% in 4 years under Obama

and, back to you.....

oh, by the way

my own monthly heath premium went DOWN $80 a month along with my deductible being cut in half from 2500 to 1250

ALL because of that "hated" Obamacare regulation that insurers spend at least 85% of the incoming premiums on healthcare instead of "administration costs" (largely profit)

over two BILLION dollars has been refunded to paying individuals this way in only two yrs

oh but relax, enough ass hole Republican state governors care more about giving the finger to that black muslim President than they do their own state's poor by just saying "no" to expanded Medicaid

fuk em, just like all the old white bigots, eventually they die off

Meanwhile, back in the highly cooperative current administration:

"The Federal Aviation Administration claims the sequester spending cuts are forcing it to delay some 6,700 flights a day, but rarely has a bureaucracy taken such joy in inconveniencing the public.

Though the FAA says it is strapped for cash, the air traffic control agency managed to find the dollars to update its interactive "command center" tool on its website so passengers can check if their airports are behind schedule due to what it calls sequester-related "staffing" problems. Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn noticed this rare case of FAA technological entrepreneurship and fired off a letter Wednesday protesting what he called the agency's 'full blown media rollout' to hype the flight delays.

That had zero impact on FAA bosses, who were on Capitol Hill rationalizing their dereliction. But after Mr. Coburn published his letter on his website, FAA regional employees wrote to blow the whistle on their bosses. As one email put it, the FAA management has stated in meetings that they need to make the furloughs as hard as possible for the public so that they understand how serious it is.

Strategies include encouraging union workers to take the same furlough day to increase congestion. 'I am disgusted with everything that I see since the sequester took place,' another FAA employee wrote. 'Whether in HQ or at the field level it is clear that our management has no intention of managing anything. The only effort that I see is geared towards generating fear and demonstrating failure.' Just so."

If there a actual point you are trying to make with your Sequester FAA post, John?

You mean, besides the obvious one that the administration is trying to handle the sequestration in a way that maximizes public inconvenience, and then blame the Republicans for the result?

Yeah, but these are Republican congressmen we're talking about. Expecting them to know anything about how government works is like asking cows to build a rocketship.

let's see your credible sources on this John

of the 276 Republicans in Congress, 272 of them oppose marriage equality

. And shortly after two of the four equality-supporting GOPers broke ranks with the party, the Republican National Committee put its foot down, unanimously passing resolutions condemning marriage equality. Sure, one of those resolutions was authored by the same RNC committeeman who wrote an essay calling homosexuals "filthy," but the GOP thought it was important to make a statement against people in love getting married, because "values."

I don't get it, these old bigots oppose the "values" of the American public from background checks to their own outrageous spending when they are in control

Obstructing jobs, and obstructing fixing the economy is Patriotic???

Can you say this about the Keystone Pipeline? Or the failures of Fiskar/Solydra?

Or are you just stupid and fail to comprehend economics as it relates to gov't subsidy?

Interesting viewpoint!
Obama can't create jobs that spend money!!!, right - jobs are created out of thin air!!! by magic! Jesus has something to do with it, get jebus on your side, and the jobs are so numerous that we can't keep up with our good fortune.

They have to be created out of thin air, Like Romney would have done (and just lied that jobs are created by Gov. spending)

Obama failed by having all his policies filibustered, he should have had a constitutional show down and tell McConnell to GFHS
Right, Thats What Bluefring thinks we should have done, shove it down the Republicans throat, so we can create jobs, pay down the debt, balance our budget and get our house in order

Norton the current budget is more than the last,, just NOT what Obama wanted. So Yes, the whole air traffic thing is a political ploy to prove to the people that the sequester is damaging. MEANWHILE,, nearly a half mil to study DUCK PENISES and the implications on society>>? No one in Washington is being "cut".. Obama hasnt cut his retirement account to 3 mil either .. Yeah,, this sequester crap is a joke being played on us by the dems and the repubs in washington, period.

This just shows how stupid you are

The sequestration cuts were documented up front for all to see, for 2 years.

The Dems and OBAMA told us what these cuts will do. But the idiots said that we are just getting hysterical over nothing, and any CUTS are better than no cuts. That was what they said, so please take note.

And then when the sequester cuts happen, THAT THE REPUBLICANs enacted into law,
all of a sudden they don't like how the sequester cuts are affecting things, so somehow it's Obama's fault???

We told you that they would suck, why now do you agree with common sense?

It amazes me what it would take for you asshats to concede that Obama is a failure.

He gave us Obamacare under a Dem Congress and even they are conceding that it was a mistake.

There are only 2 options

We will need to take a critical look at each option. right?

here is the challenge

and definitely not delusional or naive...
since I'm a skeptic, and differ to only those that know more than me
what other options are available for me?

Tell us how not spending will help our economy.

How will austerity improve the future of those unemployed?

will the jobs come from the rich that have an extra million to waste?

Does JC endorse the Keystome Pipeline??, just like the lobbyist Grover Norquist, and does JC endorse the millions that he is being paid by the Koch Brothers to do their dirty work to propagandize the pipeline, and promote the corporate takeover of 1000s of miles of private/state land.
Even though it will not reduce our gas prices, or go directly to Americans, it is destined to be exported.

I think JC would want to let the land owners have a say.
