My take on Presidents (I think I MIGHT be correct here... Maybe not), is that in their second term, they get MORE done...(EDITED: Dems and Reps alike)

The reaction of the politicians amuses, but does not surprise, me. When Bush was president, the Democrats blamed rising gas prices on him. Now the Republicans blame it on Obama, and the clueless Barbara Boxer blames it on conspiracy and too little regulation.
We have a very limited refinery supply, with NIMBY's making sure that we build no new ones, and live with a mandate for gasoline blends unique to California. Logic and experience both would expect that situation to yield periodic shortages and consequent price volatility.
I would love to see some local politicians do something useful about this, like synchronize traffic signals better, or get slow drivers in fast lanes off the road. Instead, they rail about "gouging" or "conspiracies" or "incompetence," but fail to look in the mirror.
California's gas prices remain a self-inflicted wound, but you'd never know it to hear the politicians talk.

Apogee, our local news reported it was Boxer, and showed her speaking, but perhaps both called for the investigation. I wouldn't mind if they made the NIMBY's testify along with the petroleum refiners.

Edit: Ron, to help you out with what I mean, I think it's the right-wing propaganda machine feeding you the line of "first-term practice", because I don't believe this is Obama's positioning.
