+1 for Mountainlion.
Anyone care to wager that this thread will hit 40K before the election results are counted?

Think of all the really good leaders that have had a personal impact on your life from your coaches, teachers, whoever. How many of those were selfish, materialistic people? None of mine were. Mine were generous, and selfless. They commanded respect from the whole community. Does Mitt Romney give you this impression?

Indeed.

The single biggest expenditure is the money spent on Medicare
there's also a few greenbacks spent on offense:

"If you look at defense … we're spending more than the rest of the world combined," former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman said Monday, December 12, 2011 in a debate with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at St. Anselm College in Manchester, N.H. "If you can’t find some efficiencies there …"

That the United States spends more on military than any other country in the world is not up for debate, analysts we contacted agreed. The United States, which guarantees the security of the 28 members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, among other allies, spends at least six times more than the next largest spender, analysts said.

Nevertheless, a number of military analysts and international agencies have attempted to crunch the numbers, and most find Huntsman’s claim in doubt, concluding that the United States makes up closer to 40 or 45 percent of the world’s total military spending instead of the 50 percent plus suggested by Huntsman.

mountainlion, so many great points in just a couple of paragraphs...
Well said.

And this just in, yes, from Rolling Stone:

What we Americans go through to pick a president is not only crazy and unnecessary but genuinely abusive. Hundreds of millions of dollars are spent in a craven, cynical effort to stir up hatred and anger on both sides. A decision that in reality takes one or two days of careful research to make is somehow stretched out into a process that involves two years of relentless, suffocating mind-warfare, an onslaught of toxic media messaging directed at liberals, conservatives and everyone in between that by Election Day makes every dinner conversation dangerous and literally divides families.

How The Hype Became Bigger than the Presidential Election

Think about it: Banning poll numbers would force the media to actually cover the issues. As it stands now, the horse race is the entire story – I can think of a couple of cable networks that would have to go completely dark tomorrow, as in Dan-Rather-Dead-F*#king-Air dark, if they had to come up with even 10 seconds of news content that wasn't centered on who was winning. That's the dirtiest secret we in the media have kept from you over the years: Most of us suck so badly at our jobs, and are so uninterested in delving into any polysyllabic subject, that we would literally have to put down our shovels and go home if we didn't have poll numbers we can use to terrify our audiences.

This has been compounded by,,the INTARWEB..^^^^

Thousands of sites devoted to one party or another, fact check sites owned by one party or another so on and so forth. this has not made sorting through the normal politics any easier really.

All the more reason to get CAMPAIGN fairness and restrictions in place. Identical coverage, identical debates etc etc. IF we dont invent a system it will only get worse.

Yes ... so true Ron.

Thousands of sites devoted to one party or another, fact check sites owned by one party or another so on and so forth. this has not made sorting through the normal politics any easier really.

Which makes the whole affair worthless and stupid .....

Romney said what he felt needed to be said in order to win a debate...

Didn't seem to matter to him if it was true or not...

Maybe that's true for anyone running for office...

But he was so obviously lying that anyone would be a fool to vote for him...

He just isn't Presidential material...

He's too see through...

all i know for sure Locker, is that things are WORSE in my hood than four years ago. Things over seas are worse than four years ago. I just paid 4.12 a gallon for gas--the highest its been here. NV continues to lead the country in un-employment figure.

Ask a right winger what they think Romney will do if he becomes President, and they cannot answer. That's because Romney makes a point of not telling us what he's going to do.

Kman, i have no fantasy hopes of romney changing much, ...

BUT he will go in different directions regarding many areas that should be a major concern.

This, even though Romney has stated that he will change much.

Right wingers rely on blind trust. Trust that a white man who has made million$ for himself is somehow better than a black man in the White House.

A trust that this white man really has your best interest in mind. This even though the business model that gained him his million$ was exactly opposite: profits without regard to people.

It's blind trust, you see, because if you ask that same right winger what Obama has done wrong, they can only wave a flag of vagueness--they actually have no idea what they don't like about his policies.

Listening to Romney live right now

All he's talking about is how he's not going to raise taxes, how he's not going to cut any spending, and how much free stuff we're all going to get

He's a liar, obviously - are repubs really this stupid as to believe this nonsense?

Ron, now's your chance to show us how much you know about the Democratic policies you hate.

Perhaps you can start by telling us that our Secretary of State actually endorsed the Muslim-hating film.
