My favorite story of the day:

Repub Candidate Endorses Death Penalty For Rebellious Children

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/08/charlie-fuqua-arkansas-candidate-death-penalty-rebellious-children_n_1948490.html

In "God's Law," Fuqua's 2012 book, the candidate wrote that while parents love their children, a process could be set up to allow for the institution of the death penalty for "rebellious children," according to the Arkansas Times. Fuqua, who is anti-abortion, points out that the course of action involved in sentencing a child to death is described in the Bible and would involve judicial approval. While it is unlikely that many parents would seek to have their children killed by the government, Fuqua wrote, such power would serve as a way to stop rebellious children.

Ron, pop quiz.

What does Governor Romney say he will do if elected President:

1) Ensure health care is available for all with preexisting conditions.

2) Not lower taxes.

3) Close enough loop-holes in the tax code to cover the lowered taxes.

4) End Medicare.

5) Strengthen Medicare.

Hint: Do not listen to the fist debate for the correct answer.

President Obama touted it in 2010 as evidence "manufacturing jobs are coming back to the United States,” but two years later, a Michigan hybrid battery plant built with $150 million in taxpayer funds is putting workers on furlough before a single battery has been produced.

“Had it been private investors rather than government bureaucrats making the decision, there either would have been a reality check about the industry."

Paul Chesser, National Legal and Policy Center

Workers at the Compact Power manufacturing facilities in Holland, Mich., run by LG Chem, have been placed on rotating furloughs, working only three weeks per month based on lack of demand for lithium-ion cells.

Randy Boileau, a spokesperson for LG Chem in Holland, told FoxNews.com that battery production is expected to pick up once Volt assembly lines in Detroit resume production on Oct. 15. He said the facility has spent the past two years building infrastructure and conducting pre-production “test runs.”

“The market conditions haven’t been as favorable, but this hasn’t slowed down plans one bit,” Boileau said. “LG Chem has repeatedly said that this facility is a critical component for them globally.”

It is a good question--how far would the computer industry have gotten without Gov't sponsorship? How long did it take for computer companies to begin to turn a profit with the new technology that was made possible by huge Gov't investments?

There are many other instances of the Gov't seeding an industry. Profits are not the only motivation here, but what would you know (or care).

BTW If you quote Fox News, can I quote Rolling Stone?

"... a Michigan hybrid battery plant built with $150 million in taxpayer funds..."

Literally (or should I say, liberally - same thing) translated: "... a Michigan hybrid battery plant built with less than 7 hour's worth of the $15 billion a month it took to fund the Iraq War..."

More Chicago style fraud.

Threat Of “Robo-Donations”:

The absence of industry-standard anti-fraud credit card security features render campaigns more vulnerable to so-called “robo-donations.” Robo-donations are large numbers of small, automated donations made through the Internet to evade FEC reporting requirements.
Given the state-of-the art digital sophistication of the President’s re-election campaign—including social media, micro-targeting and data-mining—its online donation system contains at least three major security vulnerabilities:

1. The absence of the industry-standard CVV and unknown use of AVS anti-fraud security for online credit card donations.

2. The presence of a branded, major third party-owned website (Obama.com) redirects its 68% foreign traffic to a campaign donation page.

3. Active foreign solicitation using indiscriminate email solicitations and exposure to social media.
Specifically:

Obama Campaign Lacks the Industry-Standard Level Of Credit Card Security For Donations, But Uses It For Merchandise Purchases: To purchase Obama campaign merchandise, the campaign requires buyers to enter their credit card CVV security code, but does not require the credit card security code to be entered when making an online campaign donation. By GAI’s estimates, the Obama campaign’s failure to utilize industry-standard protections potentially costs the campaign millions in extra processing fees.
Obama.com Purchased By An Obama Bundler In Shanghai, China With Questionable Business Ties to State-Run Chinese Enterprises: In 2008, Obama.com was purchased by an Obama fundraiser living in Shanghai, China, whose business is heavily dependent on relationships with Chinese state-run television and other state-owned entities.
68% Of Traffic To Anonymously Registered Obama.com Is Foreign: According to industry leading web analytics site Markosweb, an anonymously registered redirect site (Obama.com) features 68 % foreign traffic. Starting in December 2011, the site was linked to a specific donation page on the official BarackObama.com campaign website for ten months. The page loaded a tracking number, 634930, into a space on the website labeled “who encouraged you to make this donation.” That tracking number is embedded in the source code for Obama.com and is associated with the Obama Victory Fund. In early September 2012, the page began redirecting to the standard Obama Victory Fund donation page.

Search engine optimization (SEO) efforts, using common spamming techniques, may have been undertaken by unknown third-parties, generating foreign traffic to Obama.com.

ICELAND. No news from Iceland?… why? How come we hear everything that happens in Egypt but no news about what’s happening in Iceland.
In Iceland, the people has made the government resign, the primary banks have been nationalized, it was decided to not pay the debt that these created with Great Britain and Holland due to their bad financial politics and a public assembly has been created to rewrite the constitution.

And all of this in a peaceful way. A whole revolution against the powers that have created the current global crisis. This is why there hasn’t been any publicity during the last two years: What would happen if the rest of the EU citizens took this as an example? What would happen if the US citizens took this as an example.

This is a summary of the facts:

2008. The main bank of the country is nationalized.
The Krona, the currency of Iceland devaluates and the stock market stops. The country is in bankruptcy

2008. The citizens protest in front of parliament and manage to get new elections that make the resignation of the prime minister and his whole government. The country is in bad economic situation.
A law proposes paying back the debt to Great Britain and Holland through the payment of 3,500 million euros, which will be paid by the people of Iceland monthly during the next 15 years, with a 5.5% interest.

2010. The people go out in the streets and demand a referendum. In January 2010 the president denies the approval and announces a popular meeting.
In March the referendum and the denial of payment is voted in by 93%. Meanwhile the government has initiated an investigation to bring to justice those responsible for the crisis, and many high level executives and bankers are arrested. The Interpol dictates an order that make all the implicated parties leave the country.

In this crisis an assembly is elected to rewrite a new Constitution which can include the lessons learned from this, and which will substitute the current one (a copy of the Danish Constitution). 25 citizens are chosen, with no political affiliation, out of the 522 candidates. For candidacy all that was needed was to be an adult and have the support of 30 people. The constitutional assembly starts in February of 2011 to present the ‘carta magna’ from the recommendations given by the different assemblies happening throughout the country. It must be approved by the current Parliament and by the one constituted through the next legislative elections.

So in summary of the Icelandic revolution:
-resignation of the whole government
-nationalization of the bank.
-referendum so that the people can decide over the economic decisions.
-incarcerating the responsible parties
-rewriting of the constitution by its people

Have we been informed of this through the media?
Has any political program in radio or TV commented on this?
No! The Icelandic people have been able to show that there is a way to beat the system and has given a democracy lesson to the world.

Gary what would be incorrect there? Our involvment in Iran was over fear Russia would start dealing with them and "take them over" no?

Ron, it would be shorter to answer what was correct there.

JE: could it be as simple as the fact we and our efforts are thought of much in the way we thought of the british, French, Spanish et al during our revolutuions? We fought the French then accepted their aid. And it never worked out well in the end.

I suppose you could say we fought the French when we were British colonies, but that really wasn't US. We certainly didn't fight the French during our revolution, the French were our allies in that scrap. The French had a major hand in helping us defeat the English king and the American conservatives that fought for him.

When we won both world wars, it somehow gave our politicians the feeling we needed to introduce democracies anywhere there was fighting.

We won both world wars? That's farcical, Ron. The British Navy and French Army won WWI. Google Verdun.

In WWII we did indeed win in the Pacific, but it was the Russians that beat the Germans, no question. And don't even claim it was because we gave the Russians some trucks. Even after D-Day, over 75% of the German army was fighting the Russians.

Overtaking the Shaw of Iran was yet another blunder- as if the Russians would have faired any better,, but no we take it up the bum again...And now look at Iran...We would have been way ahead had we let Russia take them over and then THEY would have had to deal with the backlash, never ending.

We helped the British overthrow the democratic Iranian government to make it safe for the Brits and us rape their oil fields. Look what that got us.

And the idea that we felt the need to introduce democracies anywhere is a joke. When you look at the endless procession of thugs we have supported that idea is unsupportable.

Indeed. The US has historically been very satisfied with dictators, as long as they're our dictators.
