I see Fartturd is blowing his own trumpet again...obviously its time for a little reminder...Said on the cusp of the Bush Meltdown.....

""Jeremy,

We're not in an economic mess, we are merely reversing an over extension of credit to individuals/companies that had no business obtaining loans in the first place. The people losing homes are those who put no money down or maintained lifestyles by continually taking equity loans on their long held properties. In general the economy is in good shape and the dollar will rally when Europe realizes that they can't keep their rates high.

Was that coincidental with falsely claiming to be a CPA on your professional website?

food stamps are becoming the latest middle-class entitlement.

That's an odd definition of middle class you're using. And btw, asset tests are silly, they would cost much more to implement than they would ever save. The stigma of actually using food stamps is a fairly effective deterrent for those who don't actually need them.

This point is illuminating in showing the difference between the mindset of liberals and conservatives. The left tend to look at data and effectiveness..i.e. an asset test is a waste of time/money, similar to drug testing for welfare/unemployment recepients, that costs more than it "saves" from people it eliminates, while the right is concerned about morality, retribution, and someone somewhere who might be abusing/cheating the system (this hard-on for grifters somehow doesn't apply to CEOs, bankers, and other white-collar hucksters and thieves though).

Your quote also says 130% of the poverty level, implying that it's "middle class". Do you even know what the poverty level annual earnings for a family is? $23k/yr. 130% is only ~30k. I'd love to see you support a family of 4 in CA on 30k/yr.

Stigma? Have you seen the new food stamp "credit cards"? Clearly by the increase in the number on the rolls there is no effective deterrent at work.

So your solution is to just give food stamps to whoever wants them, rich or poor, because means testing is too expensive? This is the GOVERNMENT, they already have information on your income for tax purposes, it couldn't cost much to check that.

Yeah, the biggest recession in our lifetimes obviously has nothing to do with the increase in the rolls. Willful disregard of influencing conditions is pretty ridiculous, especially since you're supposed to be some kind of hard science guy. My first job was from 15-17 in a chain grocery store, cashier/stock clerk/bagger. There is a palpable stigma and deterrent effect. Even with WIC vouchers.

Re: "your solution", nice of you to put words in my mouth, but I'm capable of speaking for myself, thanks. You seem to misunderstand what "asset" testing involves. "Income" does not equal "assets". Income qualifications are, to the best of my knowledge, already in place to qualify. Asset testing would be a nightmare time and money sink with the investigative activity it would require, and even with a giant time and money budget would be largely ineffective at indentifying assets.

Be sure to leave all your weapons at home, they don't like it when you try to sneak those into Federal correctional facilitites. And say hi to Duke Cunningham for us.
