A couple inches of snow last night....the sky cleared around 0330, then the temp plummeted.
Presently 8F, clear and calm.

I appreciate these reports even though I hate snow and don't really need to know what's going on up beyond the grade.
Chinchin's reports would be helpful for many! (even if it is the "economic climate")
*And by the way, Jason is a super resourceful, talented, and motivated dude, maybe just frustrated right now, so don't be too much of a dick Crag.*

Hit -1F early this morning, then a breeze began around 0400 and the temp soared to 13F.....back down to 10F now, with a high in the upper teens expected today.
Colder tomorrow.
Yesterday's snow was 4 to 6 inches of really light stuff.
Some interesting dynamic going on right now regarding skiing/poaching on June Mountain. I'll post more info here later on the subject.

Looking good out here in Bishop, should be a killer day at the boulders. HIGH friction. Cold as a room full of nuns.
Stay the hell away.

Dean, maybe you can address this later. Someone told me that MMSA is thinking of re-opening June Mtn next year.
Also, I wonder why June was never opened to mountain biking.

Mmm hmm, on the East side of the Spring Mountains this go-round, still in Vegas for a second round of interviews...sunny, cold for vegas (high temps in 30's), and a bit of a breeze here in the NW end of town at my Dad's place. Supposed to be rather chilly this weekend, sunny easy routes are sounding more appealing by the minute...

Good luck on the job front, Weston my boy. Chip chop chip.
I may need a ropegun down yonder in March, so you need to place yourself there and plan your vacation time accordingly ;).

Dean, but...but...but...I was thinking Epinephrine might be pleasant this time of year. Especially the belays...GAH.
I may just go cruise on Solar Slab depending on which partner I get. Flailing on hard cracks in the sun doesn't sound like a bad idea, either, if I'm the one flailing. My belayer, on the other hand... *shiver*
Zach, ten four brother. Would be nice if I could be man enough to take you up The Warrior when you're healed up. That would require me becoming a man, though...*whimper*
On a serious note, when you able to start TR'ing things?

June Mountain is definitely a quandry. The present issues are with the safety concerns of skiers heading up there to poach.
More directly, the liability related to those skiers, and exactly how to mitigate that.
The USFS has never had a management/lease plan written for a ski area that is non-operational during the winter months.....herein lies the problem. With nothing in writing, what entity is responsible should someone get hurt or killed?
The ski area is doing limited AC this year, just to protect structures and emplacements from slides. Obviously, there is no patrol of any kind, and although signage prohibits snowmobiles, they are being used. All of this makes for a strained relation between the USFS and Mammoth Mountain.
As far as next season, the FS has been pressuring Mammoth to submit their business/operation plan for next year. Rusty Gregory has stated that they plan on operating, but I personally believe they will sell, given the chance.
I know there are suitors....two very major players whom shall remain nameless for now....that may make a move.
In the meantime, let's hope there is no tragedy up there to complicate an already extremely complicated issue.

A small but energetic cell of moisture came through here last evening, and layed down 3 inches of pure powder.
Presently, it is clear, calm and -4F.
High today in the upper teens. Expect similar conditions over the next few days.

Dean, you haven't skinned up there yet? (Surprised)
I probably would not, unless I could hook up with Eric or something. I'm friends with too many people involved.
Besides, there is a skin track going up through the steep trees, I would probably do that. (Still need new boots though)
I think it might be colder there than in WY right now.

No, I have not, Julia...not skiing this winter. :(
The ski area has been driving a cat up the road, so the access is pretty easy.

One of the colder days we've seen in a long time.
We had a high of 23F, but it certainly didn't stay there long...and already at 4:45, we are down to 12F.
Low this morning was -8F. I battled some ice in the fuel lines in the Worm this morning.....thankfully, I was able to get it in the garage to deal with it.
