Yeah, I'm afraid we are going to see a serious warm-up by tomorrow, leading to some VERY serious flooding. This stuff coming down now is cement.

I was gonna post this in the "When people quote wind speeds" thread but since you mentioned wind. Yesterday morning I went to get some fishing in at Pleasant Valley Reservoir. It was a little windy when I got there but not that bad. Within about an hour all hell broke loose. I was getting tuft in my teeth it was so windy. Crazy thing is the fishing was really good so I stuck it out for about two hours. On my way back up the bank I got hit by a gust that quite literally knocked my on my ass. First time I've ever been blown off my feet by wind. Now I don't wanna quote wind speed here and get people all in a huff but I'm betting over 60MPH to do that.

ruppell, I've been knocked down by gusts in the 40 mph range a number of times...but then, I am pretty lame.

Yesterday's winds got pretty darn crazy...I have no doubt they were 60 or higher down your way.

I'm a 155lbs and was turned sideways into the wind when that gust blew me down. Maybe we can get RGOLD to do the physics on it. I'm sure it has something to do with f=mXa and coefficient of friction and all sorts of other crap I don't understand. lol All I can say for sure is it was pretty amazing to witness.

Cragman, I don't know exactly why, but the current storm's entries in this thread bring to mind your classic post of the epic on the Walker River and the angels from Fallon NAS. (Was it Hells Gate or?) One of the most riveting and detail rich "trip" reports to ever show up here.

Blowing hard here in Reno. At least 50 with gusts to 80 a few have shaken the house like an earthquake. Rain is just starting and man is it windy.

Wind is an exhausting element.

Absolutely INSANE wind here on the east side....not sure the rain is even hitting the ground!!!!!

EDIT: David Plotnikoff..you are referring to my report regarding the flood of January 2, 1997, the rescue attempt of 2 people trapped by the flooded Walker River at Mountain Gate Lodge, just north of Devil's Gate, here in Mono County.

Thanks for the compliments on my report....Closest I've ever come to death.

Wow it was insane here in the west side of town. We just moved to the Caughlin Ranch area and I for the life of me can't figure out why anyone would live here now that I live here.

Twice this week the house was basically blasted by 50 to 80 mph winds with gust I'm sure near 90 plus. I sleep like the dead but was up all night after the first blast hit the house at 11 pm last night.

It finally slowed around 4 am to a steady 30 and still having gusts to 50 I suspect.

Dean that was and is a great report. But it's not the closest you have been to dying. Those happen and you don't even know it so add 5 more to your list you never knew that happened and you lived.

Hope all are well we will go see the flood today and how many bad ass kyakers there really are in our town.
