Jeff's birthday party was amazing!

We were also honored to be there. Snowbasin Needles Lodge is a magical mountain environment and all you need is a ride...

And a friend...

And the Man of Honor...

And away we go...

More photos would have been nice but I was lost in conversation with many of the estimable guests! Too many decades between meetings these days so a gathering like this one is really special!

As Jeff talked about his adventures the realization hit me that he has taken a proud and commanding role in every meaningful revolution in modern climbing; clean climbing, the ice revolution and light and fast superalpinism.

Is Jeff hammering a Warthog into a rock crack?

My caption for Tom's first photo today would be;

"Do you think we can manage not to hit that?"

I am sorry that I had to travel for work, and missed the party.

Tom: one note on your two aerial photos of the Sawtooth Range. First photo captioned Redfish Lake: is of Alturas Lake. Photo captioned Sawtooth Range, has Redfish Lake in it.

Sounds as though everyone had a good time, and I certainly
wish Jeff a great birthday. He knows he has lots of friends.
I had planned to be there but wasn't feeling well. I have my
ups and downs. My daughter too was mad at me, because I
was going to visit her as well and couldn't.

Ron, yesterday after a few passes through the Sawtooths, Chelsea had enough and was glad to have me fly it out of the range

at first Chelsea wasn't willing to fly the Wind Rivers today, so i gave a small demonstration of the airplane's capabilities with a couple of passes by Mt Temple. After that Chelsea was very happy to take over the controls again and let me resume my role as cameraman

we spent several hours flying circles around the southern Wind Rivers; filming Mt Temple Surprise Wall, East Temple, North Tower of Haystack Mtn., and Cirque of the Towers with Warbonnet Black Elk, and Feather Buttress, and Warrior I North Face, Wolf's Head, and Pingora

tomorrow we go to Wheeler Peak in Nevada, Capital Reef and Zion

A BIG THANK YOU to Connie Self and everyone that contributed to this wonderful birthday party!

Snowbasin Resort provided the Needles Lodge, Petzl the wine and a mystery donor the delicious food that we all enjoyed. Thanks for supporting the event!

On Sunday morning Connie broke out a large tin of chocolate covered fortune cookies that somehow slid under the radar. Two keepers!

when we were filming the range at low altitude a few days ago there was a big forest fire between Mt Temple and Big Sandy Meadow with the smoke blowing up into the northern part of the range and the fringe of the
southern part of the range

flight home today:

Happy Birthday Jeff!

Fun party and thank God for name tags :)

Having spent little time in Utah the ridge line hike above the lodge was pretty spectacular.
