Well! He's certainly worked up about this topic!

My husband sees black widows in our garage (separate building from the main house) all the time.

However, in general, I see far fewer spiders in this new house in So Cal than our old house in the Bay area. That house was set amidst a collection of live oak trees. The eves of the house were constantly being colonized by large spiders of all types. I'd catch and release at least 3 a week from the interior of the house there. here, Only one spotted inside every month!

Plenty at my house. Mostly outside.

Widow silk everywhere. It's tough stuff. 'ought to be something someone could do with that.

I thought I read that the brown had some other type of bite mechanism so it couldn't deliver poison to humans like a black widow. Still seeing a lot of blacks around here but there is a lot more silk outside everywhere like never before. There's leaves stuck in it all around the block walls, stucco, and fences. It almost looks like that web stuff you put out at Halloween. My dog is always trying to rub it off her nose. Could the drought be altering the species distribution with lower prey numbers ? I know we have way fewer mosquitoes, and I'm ok with that.

Silent Death

One day I suddenly did spy,
A silky spider web when I,
Came face to face without a sound,
A fat Black Widow hanging down,
She whispered to me in my ear,
Her softly rustling words to hear,
That biting me was not her wish,
If I agreed I would not squish,
Or try to cause her any pain,
I would not see her there again,
Or find her lurking in the mist,
Lest I be by her poison kissed,
But still I step with baited breath,
Should Widow's lies bring silent death,
Delivering that fatal bite,
From one so stealthy in the night.

Beware!!!!

If you boulder at Stoney Point, check the holes and pinscars before you put your fingers into that good hold.
