I posted this classic article in the midst of the Sentinel Summit Register thread but it really deserves its own thread. The Register thread is at:

This reprint of the original 1951 Sierra Club Bulletin article appeared in Galen Rowell's Vertical World of Yosemite.

I've read this at least a hundred times...and just read it again. I am forever reminded just how tough these guys were. I marvel at their vision and what they overcame with pretty primative gear. This ascent really shows the strength and drive or the human spirit. Nice post!

Still a great read after all these years and many other reads through it. Thanks Steve!

It's a "climbing thread" Steve, of course you have to bump with the clowns on ST.

I'm taking a break from ST. I find myself getting sucked into OT threads. I'll still check in once in awhile but NO MORE POSTING. It's so discouraging trying to get people on a "so called" climbing forum to talk intelligently about....climbing.

WTF Jim is out of here. I still think all this bickering bullsh*t has led to the pushing away more and more of people who climb regularly no matter how old, how good, or how talented. I also think all the nasty crassness has led to it being sensored from people more and more, mainly myself, at work and this is what will be the eventual downfall of ST.

By the way this looks like a great thread and I will do my best to read it ON MY PHONE tomorrow at work.

9 months and 17 hits of which most are "bumps" for this Classic of all Classics. That is really discouraging to say the least. I guess if you gave a class in history and no one showed up it would be history?
