I heard awhile back that if you drive into Yosemite at night and don't pay for a seven day pass and you require a rescue, you will be charged for it. If this is true does it extend to a requirement of having to renew your pass every seven days when it expires? Are you suppose to renew it after seven days or are you allowed to stay in the park longer without renewing it?

If you don't bring (vegan) twinkies for Werner, Bear #46 will charge you. (if she can get off her fat ass).

Should we bet on how many posts it takes before this guy (gal?) gets a straight answer?

Two different issues.

Entrance fee - Yes, you are suppose to have a valid receipt. Pay every 7 days or have annual pass.

Rescue - If you are negligent and/or cause a dangerous situation for yourself or other like rescue personnel. That equals big bucks.

If you are rescued the NPS part is covered. If you need air ambulance out of the valley that is your cost. Private helo = $5000+$100(mile)

Yose Valley to Doctors Medical in Modesto is $12,000

Might be interesting to see a price break down on that. At 100 bucks a mile, I suspect a little price gouging is going on. And we wonder why the gov. is broke.

I believe you get sent to court if you're negligent and require rescue then the judge will determine the punishment in some form or other usually in form as a fine.

If you can't pay they send you to Siberia to hard labor and you will have to eat roots and tubers to survive.

The only way out of that situation you'll have to escape.

Watch the movie "The Way Back" to see how it's done ......

The vast majority of the rescue budget is spent on finding lost tourons. They don't usually get billed because they are expected to be incompetent.
Ironically indigent climbers are held to a higher standard and could theoretically be required to reimburse for rescue costs. Hard to finance a rescue canning or working for the DNC.

The cost of a "Lifeguard Flight," should be based on the Hobbs meter on the helo, ot how much time the engine operated. Even a $1000/hour for a fully crewed helo would be exorbitant. Figure not more than 3 hours of flight time from Yosemite to Modesto or...??? Shouldn't be more that $3K for the flight. Of course that depends on how critical the patient, and amount of in-flight medical treatment given. Probably all on the same bill, tho'.

Silver, you left out the part about Werner holding a twinkie. otherwise that's pretty accurate.

Memorial Medical Center

You should give them a call and get the truth.

HAHAHA

$3k for a 70 mile flight from YOSE to Modesto.

Pilot, RN, Paramedic + Helo

Ever buy a helicopter? Little more expensive than a Subaru. And the cost at the pump isn't cheap.

The base rate is standard and the mileage is just one way. Patient mileage.

Ground ambulance is the same way. Base rate + so much a loaded mile.

Try at least $800 then $15 a mile for ground in AZ.

The corporation commission sets the rates so call them.

How about the cost of the contract Helo that sits at Crane Flat in Yosemite?

How about the three at the Grand Canyon during the summer?

If you really want to see the expense of helicopters look at the cost for wildland fire and SAR.

The Yosemite Copter cost the GOV 1000s a day if is flys or not.

So the contractor gets $5000 is for the helo just to sit there.

If there is a mission then there is a base rate then so much per hour.

Care to guess??

Depends on the size or type of helicopter.

Small = $$$

Big = $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

National costs for aviation resources in 2006 were $$$$$$$$. Total fire expenditure was $1.5 billion. Aviation resources are very expensive and must be efficiently managed. Part of the cost containment strategy for this year was to reduce the costs of aviation resources.

What do you think is the daily cost of helicopters on your Type 3 Incident? First assume that the aircraft is on a CWN contract.

Type 1 helicopter – say an S-64F Sikorsky Skycrane
Daily Availability Rate is $35,280.
Flight Rate is $6,370 per hour.
Assume 6 hours of flight each day = $38,220.00
Total daily cost of the CWN helicopter is $73,500

Type 2 helicopter – say a Bell 212
Daily Availability Rate = $5,768
Flight Rate = $1617 per hour
Assume 6 hours of flight time = $9,702
Total cost = $15,470.

Type 3 helicopter – say a Bell 206L4
Daily Availability Rate = $2,464
Flight Rate = $844
Assume 6 hours of flight = $5,064
Total Cost = $7,528
