I see it on Supertopo now and then.

Mostly when reading threads of early Yosemite climbers.
I learn from these messages.

It seems to me that this crew knew more about the importance of caring for one another than they let on.

I am amazed at the strength, ability and kindness of these folks.

Cheers to the old souls of the Valley and thier Love !

When it is good here, it is incomparable.

When it isn't, it becomes pitiable quickly.

Actual climbing content and a respectful atmosphere is everything...

Plenty of love these days on the ST.
I've seen plenty of folks reach out to each other. I've seen relationships grow and blossom. I've seen weddings. I've seen birth announcements. I've seen people come together and mourn the loss of dear friends, casual acquaintences, and the family members friends. I've seen people who have never met give and receive congratulations for new ascents, new jobs, overcoming illness, or a good story. I've seen people re-establish relationships with old friends and meet new ones. I've seen folks give of themselves - time, money, and talents - just because someone was in need. That is love - and there's lots of it around here!
Who here shares their love freely? Too many to name, but I'll toss this one out: Neebee. We've never met, but she sent me a card. She wished my wife a happy birthday. No one on this forum has even met my wife, but when Neebee found out about the day, she jumped at the chance to send her best wishes to a complete stranger.
There is love on the ST. Long may it grow and be shared. To quote one of the other great purveyors of love here: Keep the MAGIC alive!

Alright, I deleted my 'Haters' thread. But this post from Karl summed up my thoughts in a kinder way than I did;

I'm a part of a number of cultures and communities.

Supertopo is the only one where there's so much of people being negative with one another. (and being negative about the negativity isn't the clearest way out of the woods I think)

I think if we could manage to support and accept each other better and more patiently, we'd find it feels good to have a friendly community that have good vibes for everyone within it. We do have a certain amount of that here on supertopo and people have been a great help to each other. It just that we have the equivalent of online road rage here too where people take out their pent up frustrations on each other.

Since it's spring and our cabin fever is ending, maybe we can sort of bend our intent to embrace each other better. (although I don't know If I'd want to embrace even a female Teletubbie)

Peace

Karl

Bluering- Self-examination was the point of that thread so why not do that instead of ending the conversation by deleting the thread? That was a poor and self-indulgent move on your part, IMO.

These issues really warrant open and frank discussion and that is what was going on. I would like to re-start that conversation and resurrect the thread.

Any objections to doing so out there?

Steve, go for it. I have no objection.

My thread turned into something I didn't intend. Sorry for deleting it, but it was serving the wrong intended purpose.

The Evil One tries to keep up the facade, but many of us know otherwise. Fattrad has been known to share the love. He just doesn't want people to know.

I love you, man! (Can I have some of your Cabernet?)

Steve, are you asking what I intended for my thread, or what you should do to continue the 'self-examination'?

I thought my intentions were pretty clear. No more personal attacks/threats that are intended to inflict pain.

Fattrad has made a day with my father really special. He went out of his way and that folks is HUGE... My Dad's been very sick so making each day count means a whole lot.
Fattrad is the real deal... I am sorry he doesn't share some folks views but heck, really... Is that so horrible? Are we that narrow minded, easily threatened by another's "opinions?"
Oh boy...

Okay, just so we are clear... fag, nigger, spic, jew, etc are not to be taken as "personal" attacks... since they are really an attack on an entire group of people rather than an individual? Got it.

Cool. Glad you get it now....

Oh, and you left out a few. Cracker, Whitey, Redneck, Hick, and Bible-banger!

I never hear people voice objection to those. But then, bashing white-Christians is all the rage these days.

Hey Wes, ever drop a gay-bomb in reference to totally ghey looking apparel? How does that differ than saying they look like a 'fag'? Isn't the context the same? The underlying message?

Let's face it, you fools are hypocrites. You wait with bated breath for me to say something attackable. Yet you give free passes to your cohorts who drop the same language.

I know the game. You fail to realize one thing though. The more you label me as a bigot, the more free pass I have to voice perceived bigoted crap. If I'm already a bigot, I can say anything I want.

Doesn't change a thing. I'll always be a bigot in your eyes, so why would I give a f*#k what you think???

It's not that complicated - Luv Existed BITD because:

A. We were teenagers or at least single 20 somethings.
B. Testosterone was in great supply.
C. We had hair.
D. No one we knew was fat or dead.
E. Weed was cheap and plentiful.
F. Girls were up to their hoo-hoos in "being liberated".

In the "Now" - we are more likely to be overweight, balding, limp penised, old farts tending to reminisce too much and complain about intolerance when the real truth is that our feet hurt, we hate kids on our lawn and anyone who's a dick pisses us off and makes us get loud.

:) :) :)

I'm a fan of Supertopo. I've been clicking here for about eight years now. First time I came here, I was just looking for beta.

These days, I don't climb six days a week, I'm well into my thirties, and I discuss other things with folks I've bantered with for the better part of a decade.

I'm a climber, but the tribe is what keeps me around.

Plus, I'm a fan of the building thread. It's so cool to see what other people do outside of the climbing context.

Thanks Chris.

I think Pate loves very large trout. Although only in a manly man kind of way. Not the way some of you probably think.

Dwain's love for Gertrude (and her tragic failure to respect that love) is also well known here as well.

Don't have to, so there! Nyah nyah! :)

There are plenty of nut threads here, dats fo sho!

Screw them nut threads, they're a bore (especially the gun threads).

It takes all the kinds, though, not just mine or yours.

It is always going to be a combination of the two (or more) to make a thread long enough and strong enough to be woven into the pattern.
