Always a fun time when Cilley shows up in the Butte area! Hope he's able to make again this summer.

Cheers!

Couple years ago at JT for Thanksgiving, come guy came by the campfire trying to sell some gear. He had no style, no banter, and no ability to bargain, and when someone blurted, "well, you're no Dick Cilley" the entire campfire roared with laughter and the poor clueless punter couldn't flee fast enough.

Wasn't it Cilley who once came up with the best excuse for not getting up something....."I'm just plain not good enough"

I think it was more along the lines of why others could not do his routes or boulder problems.... "they" were "flat not good enough".

He used to slay all the '80's glory boys and fluffy mag climbers with that simple axiom all the time. Poor bastards never knew what hit them.

Russ,

Thanks for the clarification......I forgot the context.

So what you're saying is all those who have tried and failed on Tonic Boom are "plain not good enough"?

Well.... I wouldn't say that. but, if you said they were "flat not good enough", I would concur.

^^^^

They were wrong. Still a "flat not good enough" scenario. It's binary.

A very Happy Birthday bump to Mr. Cilley. After looking at the Butte bouldering video, I do believe you are aging well.

Hope to meet you one of these days!

Our boy in action -- fit, funny, master of dry sarcasm, and beneath the battle-hardened surface a genuinely nice man. A credit to the scene and a boon to the campfire folklore. When he was on, he was really on. And I don't mean drugs.
