Then in mid cervical region it looks like some large hand crushed it, finger indents and all.
Sounds familiar .. my neck is fused from C5 down to T1 -
Plate in front, rod in back. The rod was optional, but recommended because of the level of physical activity my doc expected me to resume. 12 bone screws in there.
Is the problem with yours herniated disc(s) ? If so, did your surgeon recommend fusion or artificial disc replacement ? Just curious.

OK here is the dopey skinny. After meeting with the neurosurgeon and his team today I am scheduled for spinal surgery post haste. (8/31 or as much sooner as they can arrange it). Apparently i am more than lucky to still be walking let alone bummed that my Elvis Leg would bounce off 5.11 foot holds.
C3 to C7 are badly trashed and pinching all but the merest of energy flow through my spinal cord and branch nerves. The imagery clearly shows several bone spurs, like guillotines, threatening to sever the cord at any wrong moment (Like the fall off the ladder a few weeks ago or the fall off the approach to the West Ridge in Eldo before that. Fortunately that fall into the river only resulted in the bashed elbow that went all gross and fugly. CrimperGirl jokingly said the blown bursa looked like an angry red scrotum bulging out of my elbow. Eweeee.
The prognosis if all goes well is for a very complete recovery with only minor limitations.
But there is no option for improvement besides the knife. And way too much risk not too have it done NOW.
The neurosurgeon believes that the myriad of ailments that have plagued me for several years are related to spinal degeneration and should fully abate after slice and dice time, Including the episode of neural damage that had me believing I was heading for amputation just last year.
It is amazing knowing how well this diagnosis ties together and explains so much ailing.
Apparently these spinal strangulations go along way to explain why so many Tacos think I am such an as#@&%e, no flow to the brain. HAHAHAHAHA....

It did look like a scrotum. :/
Seriously!
Anyway good luck with the surgery. Happy healing. And hoping you are enjoying a less-painful life afterward.

Wow Phil, good luck with the surgery. Please keep us posted. Sounds friggin scary, but also kind of weirdly hopeful if it really can clear up many of your health issues. I'm hoping for the best.
Do we rename you Titanium Man?
How many Titanium men do we have on this forum?

hey there, say, philo.....
wow, this quote here:
The imagery clearly shows several bone spurs, like guillotines, threatening to sever the cord at any wrong moment (Like the fall off the ladder a few weeks ago or the fall off the approach to the West Ridge in Eldo before that.
oh my! you know, SOMEONE up above has reallyyyyyyyyyyy been watching over you to keep you safe from this 'going very badly wrong, at any sec!'
whewwwwwww....
say, glad to know you NOW what it is for sure and what to do..
i will set aside a whole bunch of time for praying for you, through all this...
you know, folks never really know or understand how much of our body is affected by the nerves in the neck and spine... :O
so much CAN and does get numb, weak, etc, from all this, and folks then, thus, think it is only muscles in arms or legs, that is the trouble, instead...
let us know how you do, philo...
we are rooting for you here, best wishes, prayers and whatever we can do
to help.... (don't know what else i can do, but i am here)...
welllll, good eve, now...
got to run off, for the night...
